No. After the Baroudi fight, he became more conservative and restrained.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I'd think that Ezzard Charles would.raylawpc wrote:Sugar Ray Robinson Nobody else comes close in terms of being a complete fighter . . .

So that means he didn't have the ability? That's confusing. I've never heard any recollections of something that Charles wasn't proficient at.
Re: The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life
So maybe i got this wrong. . . I was born in 1974 so no. Are you saying then what fighters I have seen live in the flesh??elmersalsa wrote:Were you around when he was fighting?evrenb wrote:Sugar Ray Robinson : speed, power, chin, balance, ring generalship, grace and beauty, heart, excitement...the guy had it ALL!!
Re: The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life
I'm sorry. I wasn't aware that the question was about ability. I thought it was about completeness. Silly me.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:So that means he didn't have the ability? That's confusing. I've never heard any recollections of something that Charles wasn't proficient at.
Re: The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life
Well you could count on Monzon not to entertain any regrets. Being a sociopath might be an advantage in the fight business.
Re: The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life
.....joe louis....
ezzard charles....
ezzard charles....
Re: The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life
The only thing missing from Archie Moore's game was a win over Charles.

Surprised so many people have Holyfield. His defense was not very good.
Re: The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life
Of my lifetime probably Hearns and Leonard...Mike Spinks...Holmes... I've seen all of them box, box on the retreat, go toe-to-toe, slip and slide in the pocket...hit the body, score 1 shot KOs, wear a man down before finishing him, Force the KO, sew up a points win when they needed to.

Say what??? The great Evander Holyfield could box, slug it out, had a decent punch to knock anybody out, stamina, heart will and definitely, determination. He used to get hit because he was a crowd pleaser in going toe to toe with anybody. But he had defense. Ask the great Mike Tyson.Ambling Alp II wrote:Surprised so many people have Holyfield. Plus, Evander had speed.
Re: The Most Complete Fighters that I Have Ever Seen in My Life
JC Chavez, Salvador Sanchez, Larry Holmes, Ali, Ricardo Lopez, Carlos Monzon, Sugar Ray Robinson, Evander Holyfield
A special mention should go to Ruben Olivares for his fight with Lionel Rose.

I agree. Leonard above Duran is correct. Leonard had much better footspeed and movement than Duran.elmersalsa wrote:These to me, are the MOST COMPLETE FIGHTERS that I have ever seen in my lifetime:
1. Sugar Ray Leonard
2. Roberto Duran
3. Salvador Sanchez
4. Eusebio Pedroza
5. Marvin Hagler
6. Mike McCallum
7. Floyd Mayweather, Jr
8. Miguel "Happy" Lora
9. Evander Holyfield
10. Meldrick Taylor
Who are yours? These guys above had everything. There may be someone that I have missed off the bat, but to my memory, I have not seen more complete fighters than these ten here.
