Good news. I would rather see this fight happen before the winner faces Chavez Jr in Vegas.

...would that not mean he's expecting a £4million purse bid then?

If this goes to purse bids, isnt there a possibility that Groves will end up with less than he's asking for now?! lol

Depends who bids

I imagine it will create a bit of interest from promoters

Maybe he will end up with less - but less of these dodgy stipulations

He won't end up with less because if this goes to purse bids Hearn will put a massive bid in. He will be raging Froch didn't just agree to a rematch would of made a lot more money. Can see a good few offers coming in for this one. I'm sure someone may be thinking how much money allegedly can make out of this with new subscriptions..

Saying that I think Froch will just vacate that belt.

I thought the split on mandatories that went to purse bids usually favoured the challenger more than say, a regular voluntary would?

It also depends on who bids, look at the crazy purse Wlad got for Povetkin.

I think that russian guy who put that bid in is a bit mental though to be honest lol. He must of lost a lot of money on that.

I think it was George who wouldn't settle for less than he knew he could get in this situation.

I guess the reason George wanted the IBF to order the rematch was that he'd get himself a better deal. IBF is usually 75-25 split which means he would probably get more money as Froch has to be satisfied financially, so George automatically gets more.

The main thing though is that there will be no options. As Groves is a free agent I would imagine Eddie wanted options on Groves next few fights. Now as mandatory Eddie gets nothing if Groves wins.

I reckon Froch will vacate rather than face Groves. He won't make anywhere near as much with anyone else given the interest in the rematch, but I just don't think he fancies it that much - which is fair enough given the shellacking he had and would likely get again. I'm just not sold on all the alternatives people keep suggesting. Ward won't come here, Jr may not even get past Vera, GGG is a middleweight, Kovalev is after stevenson and is a light heavy champion and Froch won't move up, Kessler is preoccupied with his new family - so not sure where he'll go.

One in the eye for those suggesting Groves was an idiot for turning down yesterday's 'offer'. Clearly be knew this was coming and held out for a far better financial deal.

Good for him!

It's all very well 'offering a seven figure purse', but that's worthless if it's only a 20% split of the revenue.

If I was Groves I'd ask for a 40-60 split of the money and offer a rematch clause as a fair compromise.

If Eddie isn't reasonable, let it go to a purse bid, where he will still earn big money, and there's no future options to worry about.

Worst case scenario for GG now is fighting for the vacant IBF belt with Froch vacating and becoming a laughing stock in the process. Not a particularly bad position to be in.

I was under the impression the purse split is lower now the IBF has ordered the rematch than the original offer GG had from Froch.

No way will any offer be close to 60-40. Groves doesn't warrant it.

If Froch drops the IBF, he goes off to Vegas to fight JCC jnr and picks up seven figures. Groves contests the vacant IBF strap against an easy opponent ( just looked through the rankings ) and picks up about £60 in the process.

No the worse case for Groves is he doesn't agree a deal and then pulls out of the running for the purse bid, that can happen if he isn't going to be happy getting 15%

So if he doesn't like the larger split and isn't willing to take 15% without options then he will have to come out and say ok don't go to purse bids.

When I wrote this, I thought the purse bid split was 75-25. 85-15 obviously weakens GG's position. I'd take 25-75 and rematch clause if I were George.

That sums it up, he can't have it both ways. It is a real test of his self belief in a way....
