But were promotional options included with that £1m+ offer?G0mez wrote:Groves was offered a £1m+ gurantee plus bolt ons from PPV sales.
He flatly turned it down.
When Froch took £150k to fight Jermain Taylor who was on three times that amount as challenger, in f*cking America - to make his own name.
Now the IBF ruling has came in, the purse splits for someone outside the Top 3 is a paltry 15% , so will earn far less than the offer if he refuses and it goes to sealed envelopes.

True, but George himself has said the issue lays with the "stipulations". That means signing options, which ties him to Matchroom.G0mez wrote:Groves was offered a £1m+ gurantee plus bolt ons from PPV sales.

Buster Douglas got rock all (respectively) to fight Tyson. He got $24m for his first defence, vs Holyfield.
I expect George totally believes he is going to beat Froch next time, and I think its smart of him to look further ahead.

Yes that that's real point to discuss - not money for one fight, but options for further fights.JimJim2009 wrote:True, but George himself has said the issue lays with the "stipulations". Groves went home via KO.
Also one was the biggest name in boxing, in the heavyweight golden era.
Absolutely gargantuan difference here. Groves did well, gave Froch a hell of a fight - but the poll on this very forum was a complete WHITEWASH in favour of Froch stoppage, with less than 5% picking Groves by stoppage if Foster hadn't ceased the action.
Yet people say "but Froch was more hurt in round 1 than Groves was" - ok, so if he is such a knockout artist, how come barely anyone thought he would have stopped Froch in the poll ?
The truth is opening up now, Groves has turned down a payday that is greater than all his previous professional fights added together, despite being TKO9 in the previous fight.

George was very happy at the IBF's decision today, and patted himself on the back for his patience. You can be sure he knows of the 85/15% split. I imagine he would gladly take 15% of whatever, and remain a free agent.

Don is now in the camp of being your average fan just like the majority of this board who has absolutely no insight of links but acting like some kind of forthmost expert on the negotiations that have taken place.

Did I suggest that he's probably the only biased party? He may know more than other posters here, but that doesn't mean he's presenting it in an unbiased way that reflects what it actually the case.jameswilson wrote:As opposed to being slanted the other way with absolutely no insight and stating opinion as fact?crusader wrote:I'm sure, but it's going to be slanted one way with him.
I'd take what he says with a large grain of salt.

Eddie Hearn must be gnashing his teeth at this. No Stadium, less money and possibly one less champion.JimJim2009 wrote:George was very happy at the IBF's decision today, and patted himself on the back for his patience. He going to sign with Matchroom after beating Carl perhaps? That's how he might manage it!

You're acting like Groves is a dead cert to win.Final round wrote:Eddie Hearn must be gnashing his teeth at this. The way I see it Groves is the one who comes out of the 90 day thing the worse. Eddie Hearn now has the big bargaining tool of 'ok if you don't want that offer then we go to purse bids and you get 15%.' And if Groves chooses not to go for purse bids then Froch skips away to Vegas for a big payday and Groves goes where?
That's how I see it and I'll make it clear now if the fight happens and Groves wins I'll be happy because Groves has a long career ahead of him and if Froch wins I'll be happy because it means we will see him in more fights later in the year.

I plucked the figure out of thin air just to make a point, if I'm being honest. At the same time, if he were to dethrone Froch in front of tens of thousands of fans in another thriller, I imagine the first defence would be very lucrative. He'd be the new star of British boxing at world level. He would certainly pick up that sort of money in a rubber match with Froch...lillywhite14 wrote:Just out of interest, who is he fighting to pick up a cool million in his first defence?JimJim2009 wrote:George was very happy at the IBF's decision today, and patted himself on the back for his patience. Froch hardly had options at that time though, did he? The Taylor fight didn't even get live television coverage in the UK, WBC belt or not.G0mez wrote:Groves was offered a £1m+ gurantee plus bolt ons from PPV sales.

Groves is playing a dangerous lottery, but i think he is showing total self belief i his ability to win the return bout.
If he wins the belt for a smaller sum than was originally offered there will be promotional offers from the UK, Germany and most likely even America after beating Carl.
If he loses he will have to rebuild from scratch, but there will still be offers there for him albeit massively reduced.
I think he is making the right choice, but only time will tell.

Groves, for me, is just playing the game the way he has learned in the Hayemaker camp all those years. Haye gave no one options, Mormeck, Enzo or Wlad. It's very bold of George, but will pay off in style IF he can beat Froch.

I would love to see the fight happen and think it would end in the same way groves stopped. I have never liked groves and don't think I ever will so wish he would stop trying to think he is popular, because he isn't.
He is deluded if he thought he wasn't on the way to a hiding in the last fight, yeah ref stopped too early but if everyone was honest it saved groves a lot of pain.
