david Price looked more relaxed last night(spoiler)

Post by stevedoc »

i know it was a meaning less ko of a fighter that wouldn't be used as a sparring partner by price but i thought he looked different with 4 weeks under with tommy brooks ,he wasn't so robotic and changed his guard to a more american style with his right hand blocking left hooks better than before . could brooks do for big pricey what manny steward did for wladimir .

Let's not get carried away the opponent had no business in the same town let alone the same ring as price

I learnt nothing really, the best we could have hoped for was that he stopped Ruzhinsky in the 1st which he done so as far as we can tell he hasnt gone backwards but nothing to suggest he has moved forwards,i did noticed he was bringing the right hand up a la Mayweather lol but hopefully he does progress under Tommy Brooks as he,s one of the most likeable fighters in the country and deserves some sucess

On a sidenote how much can Buncey blether ha,he,s good though for when shows stall :D

The allegedly commentary team suggested he looked relaxed when entering the ring however I though he looked a little anxious. He looked even more anxious when he was in the ring during the pre-fight formalities. I thought he was the tiniest bit hesitant with some of his punches however he's been out the ring for a while so it's to be expected.

He's taken the first step in his comeback. Hopefully we'll see him in with a tougher opponent next time.

Story of his career - Price looks good in 90/10 fights.

Powerful, confident and fluid - just like Audley.

However they both react the same when faced with somebody who may have the slightest chance against them.

They both epitomise the "on top" boxer.

The more and more i see the 1st Thompson defeat the less im convinced it was a great shot that dropped Price, apart from landing on the right spot behind the ear, there was still no power in it,now before people start telling me to take a punch from a HW boxer or how can i know blah blah, ive been watching boxing long enough to kinda know when a great shot has landed and in the first fight i just didnt see a great shot land and think it was a worrying shot to be decked and staggered from

On the other hand i was impressed with the shots David stood up to in the rematch and they did look like so solid shots so im still a bit confused

Maybe his chins sound but his head isnt :?? :surprised:

moving into wilder territory here.

this fight was a pointless waste of time...nothing can be gauged from this at all aprt from the fact that Price can stand up

I wouldn't say the fight was entirely pointless. It allowed Price to experience the build up etc with a new team around him and a first round KO (even if against a weak opponent) can only help his confidence.

The guy was a last minute replacement, and was under 6 foot, with a lousy record.

I know he needs a confidence builder, but at some point he'll have to fight someone with a pulse again.

I'm not sure that he can be rebuilt, Wlad fought and beat lots of good fighters before the wheels came off and he then reinvented himself.

he looked like he had been working on the fundamentals ie footwork, defense and jab. My main concern is his punch resistance though.

Price looking relaxed against an opponent who posed absolutely no threat isn't notable. The whole issue is him being relaxed against opponents who possess qualities that make them a perceived threat and thus cause him to tense up if he doesn't have the issue under control. I highly doubt that Price was expecting any trouble from this guy.

David Lemieux is another fighter who fits into this category. This is why I'm always hesitant to get too excited when someone is blowing away fairly unspectacular opposition.

It was a completely pointless fight IMO. I agree that he needed a confidence builder, however it would of been better for him to get that against someone who would take him some rounds. Blasting the guy out in 1 round is just the sort of thing he was doing prior to the Thompson defeats and it didnt prepare him for stepping up in competition at all.

He looked as good as he could against such poor opposition. Hopefully he doesn't fight 5 little guys this year.

I dont think there's anyone on the forum *extreme Fury lover's aside* that doesnt want Price to do well. He comes across as a very nice guy, perhaps too nice for boxing.

Agreed. Mostly pointless but not entirely. Price seems to be a bit of a thinker so a bit of a confidence boost can only be a good thing.

Great right hand but his jab looked more like the pawing jab of old as opposed to the ramrod it could/ should be.

Not sure you can draw anything from his fight on sat. Held his right hand higher to his face, perhaps something Booth told him to do?

Price needs rounds and to build confidence in his stamina. No point in letting him bowl guys over time and time again.

Price looked no better or worse. The guy threw two punches, Price would've beaten him on his debut... easily

Price will always get opportunity because, in my opinion, he has the most destructive right hand in the entire division. He can walk through some easy opponents until a Klitschko or whoever holds the WBC has no one left to fight, get 20,000 scousers behind him and go for a world title.

It's unlikely he would win a world title but he certainly 'could'. He 'could' knock out anyone with that right hand. He 'could' spark Wlad if he landed clean (madder things have happened). He definitely has the power to KO Thompson if he could only land early enough

I think Booth said he hits the hardest than anyone he has taken on the pads.

I personally think the reason David Price looked more relaxed is because he is out on the road and on the undercard and not fighting Top of the bIll in his homecity of Liverpool where he knows he has got to deliver each time he steps into the Ring at the Echo Arena or whatever venue in Liverpool. So it will be good for him to have another 2 or 3 fights on the road in Germany not headling Sauerland bills before coming back to the UK and a huge homecoming bill.

I disagree - he looked more relaxed because he knew he was going to win.

I am sure that Price has the power to trouble anybody, but that is only half the story - sooner or later he will have to fight somebody who is likely to hit him back.

this is part of what i was getting at price just seemed like a normal fighter going to the ring where as he looked nervy being the main event in liverpool and i think price tried to go a couple of rounds but the guy went when he landed his right .
