Re: What individual person, boxer or fight got you hooked?
Barry McGuigan, Frank Bruno and Mike Tyson.

Naz, definately.
Growing up in Sheffield when he was perhaps the most talked about guy in boxing at the time was superb, really put boxing on the map for me.
And then i went to watch him and that was that, hooked for life.

Wasn't that the Castillo fight then? I watched that during a boys holiday in Ibiza.Weirdyman wrote:Hatton for me. I can't remember which fight, but it was one after Tsyzu and before Mayweather. I'd never taken more than a passing interest, but how this one guy from Manchester commanded such a following got me hooked.
I was then hooked on Friday Night Fights on Sky Sports, whoever was fighting.
Lovely body shot for the stoppage.

Prince Naz. That is why he should be in the HOF IMO

Ive always been a casual observer. Sounds stupid as the way the fight went. But Haye v Harrison was the one for me. I got hooked onto the build up to the fight and ive been a big fan of boxing over since. Bit gutted i didnt get into it when i was big younger now. Would of come together well with Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe's career's.

Yes. Because of seeing him fight I went on to open gyms around the world and kept the sport alive until Eddie Hearn showed up to take on my Manta. So all thanks to Prince

Alan Minter, (I was about 8 ) and remember both of his fights v Antuofermo on TV and then him getting beaten by this scary bloke called Hagler. Clips and interviews of Ali, and the rise of Sugar Ray Leonard too. Halcyon days!
Re: What individual person, boxer or fight got you hooked?
Hatton got me properly into boxing as he was champ and in big fights through my teen years. But the first fight I can remember watching was Lewis V Tyson but was only 11 when they fought!

Broke 3 ribs and made Castillo physically sick. As good of a body punch I've ever seen.Emmseegee wrote:Wasn't that the Castillo fight then? Obviously I watched all the big Tyson, benn eubank fights but watching Colin the dynamo dunne really got me into it. Especially after I done a round or two with him when I was a young boy taking part in a 24 hour sparathon years and years ago. I loved that mans style. I was hooked. Other than the beer & fags. I coulda been a contender. Hahaha

3: Emile Griffith, Dick Tiger, Gene Fulmer
Re: What individual person, boxer or fight got you hooked?
Lennox Lewis got me interested in boxing in the 90's. The Lewis vs Holyfield fights got me hooked, those fights were bigger occasions than a world cup final for me.

Tony Sibson...local hero. Ironically,28 years later I find out the house i've bought was built by him. I even have "Sibbo" written on my immersion tank!
