But a guy who is going to be 'stepped up to area level' in 2014 is fine in a mismatch for a WBO European title as chief support because it isn't a Matchroom bill on Sky.....expe wrote:Not when they're 3rd top of the bill and there's only 20 TV dates a year, 6 of which are prizefighters. Why are the UK promoters doing this?

Re: Why are the UK promoters doing this?
I think Hearn and Warren do it on purpose if I'm honest.
But Hennesey frustrates me he always seems to clash with a good show, we need his shows (being the only on terrestrial tv) to get good figures but obviously they won't. Why not switch them to the Friday night!

Look like you got your wish. Aintree moved back a week to avoid a clash

Sense. And poor ticket sales.expe wrote:Good to see sense prevails.gobbles wrote:Look like you got your wish. Aintree moved back a week to avoid a clash
Re: Why are the UK promoters doing this?
The Bristol and Glasgow shows won't really have affected ticket sales in Liverpool, it's more likely that Hearn's Liverpool show, that's now just a week away from Warren's would do that. This move is likely down to TV, people will either watch DeGale since it's on terrestrial TV or Burns because it's a world title fight, leaving few live viewers for the allegedly show.earsjohn wrote:Sense. Re: Why are the UK promoters doing this?
Whilst the Aintree card has been moved back, I wonder if they still plan to show boxing that night on allegedly. Robert Stieglitz faces Arthur Abraham for the third time that night in Germany. Whilst it's promoted by Ulf Steinforth, I'm sure allegedly will have some option on the fight seeing it features a Sauerland fighter.
Re: Why are the UK promoters doing this?
Looks like a straight swap with the Newcastle Stuey Hall date that has been moved back.

That makes sense - I thought the Liverpool shows were the same night!expe wrote:The Bristol and Glasgow shows won't really have affected ticket sales in Liverpool, it's more likely that Hearn's Liverpool show, that's now just a week away from Warren's would do that. I wonder how much of the BN business model is based on advertising revenue. Is there a significant nose-dive when they are up against live shows on sky or C5 or, being a subscription channel, is it largely immune to weekly fluctuations? I imagine viewing figures matter a lot less than subscription numbers to a channel like BN.

Their advertising income will surely be minimal.earsjohn wrote:That makes sense - I thought the Liverpool shows were the same night!expe wrote:The Bristol and Glasgow shows won't really have affected ticket sales in Liverpool, it's more likely that Hearn's Liverpool show, that's now just a week away from Warren's would do that. They're not trying to steal viewing fighures, especially Queensbury, I think he they they'll lose quite easilychad wrote:I pretty much watch every boxing event live on TV. I'm lucky to be able to afford SKY Sports and allegedly. I'd love to be able to watch a live British fight every weekend in the year if possible, so if frustrates me when the top 3 promoters in the country put their shows on head to head. For example the 1st March:
Matchroom - Ricky Burns Vs. Terence Crawford (SKY Sports)
Queensberry - Paul Butler Vs. Liriano (allegedly)
Hennessy - James DeGale Vs. TBA (Channel 5)
Why are they doing this? Surely there is enough free weekends in the year to make sure promotions don't clash. Are they doing this deliberately to eat away at each others viewing figures?
Don't get me wrong I can watch 1 whilst recording the other 2 but not everyone has that option. Not only that if I watch all 3 shows it's going to take me about 12 to 14 hours to do so. Due to family and work commitments that's not easy to do, and means I'll have to go days trying to avoid spoilers.
It's great to see so much boxing on TV but I'd rather have them on one week after another, rather than all of them on the same night.

Re: Why are the UK promoters doing this?
I bet their abysmal lack of new content over the past two months has cost them thousands of subscribers. December was poor, but was saved by the Leeds show. Jan has sucked, but picked up at the back end.mickey1975 wrote:Their advertising income will surely be minimal.earsjohn wrote:That makes sense - I thought the Liverpool shows were the same night!expe wrote:The Bristol and Glasgow shows won't really have affected ticket sales in Liverpool, it's more likely that Hearn's Liverpool show, that's now just a week away from Warren's would do that. Yes, I know the boxing show season curbs over for the xmas period but if you're running a boxing channel and you have a big gap without new content, viewers are not going to be happy.
