Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
Alex Morrison appeared in the Scottish Sun today claiming Ricky Burns is still owed £160,000 by Frank allegedly. The article suggested Ricky has only received £80,000 of his £240,000 purse for facing Kevin Mitchell in 2012. The article featured a snap of Morrison holding up 3 cheques, allegedly from W&rrens promotional company, that had been returned as cancelled by the bank. Morrison has taken it up with the board, and suggested he might take action against them should this matter not be resolved.

Probably the least surprising thing i've heard this year.
Re: Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
True however is this the first time someone has come out publicly with exact figures and waiving un-honored cheques? Ricky Burns is in the photo too, and features in the article.DMA1987 wrote:Probably the least surprising thing i've heard this year.

I don't know to be honest, I think it was public how much he left Joe out of pocket at the time wasn't it? Either way, if it's true (and I can't imagine it isn't) it is the exact reason I can't stand the bloke.chad wrote:True however is this the first time someone has come out publicly with exact figures and waiving un-honored cheques? Re: Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
Can anyone explain why Warren still has his promoters license?
What wrongdoing does a promoter have to do to get their license withdrawn? I would have thought not paying your fighters would be top of the list but that appears to be within the rules.

Re: Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
When their relationship went txts up, Fwank said he was keeping back some money that he had yet to pay, if my memory is correct, on the basis that it would cover his promoter's cut of the purses for the fights that SHOULD have happened through the remainder of their contract, which he felt was valid. He was quite curt about it - well cheesed off about Ricky leaving him, and saying not another penny would be handed over.
I felt it was pretty telling, as if monies were owed months after Ricky had fought, it was not a good sign.

In my line of work - accountancy, if a company director knowingly gives cheques that can't be cashed, he's classed as trading insolvently which is supposed to be illegal. I've only seen one guy wound up because of this, but how can the BBBoC allow this to happen on an allegedly regular basis?

Re: Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
I wonder what has happened behind the scenes this week for Morrison to do that. Reporting Fwank to the board, and calling journalists and photographers for a story about how Ricky has been screwed over. Standing there holding up the bounced cheques is a pretty strong thing to do. Something must have prompted this.
If I was owed £160k, I would have had my manager doing this 18 months ago.

Re: Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
I would have thought that if there 's an agreement about how much Burns and his manager are due from the Mitchell fight then that money should be paid. Anything FW believes he's due is another matter, which he can pursue separately.
Difficult position for the Board however. If Morrison reports FW to them for not honouring a Board contract , regardless of any other 'legal' issue, then they have a decision to make based on their own rules. But, if FW claims that Morrison and Burns are in breach of his own promoter/manager contract, which I don't believe is a Board contract, then I don't see what this has to do with the Board.
The problem is that the Board are terrified of spending huge amounts on legal fees if they are sued. So my guess is that they'll tell Morrison that they'll decide on the matter in a few months time !!!
My guess is that 'Big Alex' will have to dig deep into his pockets to get a good lawyer.

As much as I like Ricky and to be honest Billy is ok aswell I cant but help that they have made a big mistake, I dont know the money situation but what I do know if I am in FW situation and im owe someone money and they break a contract and crap on me for a rival I wont pay the money until I am forced. I just think that if the board dont make an example of the whole situation then contracts are not gonna be worth the paper they are written on. Too many people walking out on contracts which is a part of the boards job to governing the sport. Im guessing Alex has came out with all the information etc as things are not looking too good with the board dealing with Ricky breaking the contract.

Re: Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
This revelation sheds new light on Ricky's decision to jump ship. There was that time, late 2012 to early 2013, when fights were announced, opponents named, dates set, then scrapped, and the cycle repeated, and then Ricky left Fwank. Ricky's public comments clearly demonstrated a lack of faith that the promised fights/dates would materialise. Looking at it now - he was still allegedly owed the bulk of his purse for the previous fight against Mitchell - and you can well understand why Ricky made his mind up.
I'm now baffled as to Fwank's cast-iron bragging about how iron-clad tight his legal action against Ricky is. He has boasted of how certain his lawyers are of victory in the courts. No doubt there is something in the contract that Fwank feels compels Ricky to remain with him, but surely there is also something in the contract that compels Fwank to actually pay Ricky for the Mitchell fight ?!? You can't have it both ways, it is like complaining about goods or a service - fine, you can complain if you paid for it, but if you didn't pay in the first place where is the injustice ? If Fwank hasn't paid him £160k of a £230k purse for a fight several months before, you honestly cannot blame Ricky for jumping ship. His time at the top is brief and he needs to earn well while he can.
The benefit of hindsight strongly suggests Ricky made the right choice. He fought twice last year, both times at home, and the shows ran smoothly - no cancellation or postponements, no change of opponents, and he has been paid in full, and appeared to a much wider audience on Sky Sports.
Given the 2013 that his former promoter endured, chances are Ricky would have been messed around with changes of opponent and shows being scrapped or postponed.

The bottom line is - the boxer, Ricky Burns, the ,man who has to train, spar and go into the ring - hasn't been paid - and if he hadn't fought then no one would get any money !!
Poor Ricky is the REAL loser here.

Interesting to note that both Burns and Mitchell left Fwank after this show. Not immediately, but they never fought for him again.
Re: Alex Morrison claims Ricky Burns still owed £160,000
Say you ask a builder to builder to build a wall at the front of your house for £1,000 and you mention that after that you might also want him to build a wall at the back of your house.JamieM wrote:As much as I like Ricky and to be honest Billy is ok aswell I cant but help that they have made a big mistake, I dont know the money situation but what I do know if I am in FW situation and im owe someone money and they break a contract and crap on me for a rival I wont pay the money until I am forced.
Anyway, the builder builds the wall at the front of your house and you give him £200 (saying that you will give him the other £800 later).
In the meantime your neighbour asks him to build a wall for him, which means that the builder now cannot build the wall at the back of your house.
I could understand you being annoyed at this, but as he has already built the front wall then surely you should pay him the remaining £800 outstanding and not withhold this on the basis that he won't be building the back wall ?

JimJim2009, time to come clean. You've got a major beef with Warren. 99% of your posts are anti Warren. It's like clockwork. Has he done you wrong ? Are you actually Eddie Hearn in disguise ? Come on, it's time to unmask yourself once and for all !!
