Jeff Hinds Reading Referee.

Post by peter1948 »

I have heard thru the grapevine today that Reading referee Jeff Hinds is going to be considered to be made up to Star class referee. Jeff has been a loyal member of the BBBofC for over 20 years so it looks as if his dedicated loyalty may be rewarded. I have known Jeff for all his time on the board & this is great news, I wish him al the best, it couldn't happen to a nicer man.

What does being a Star referee entail? I'm assuming there are certain types of bouts only Star refs can work?

I hope Jeff gets his upgrade. He has improved over the years and is pretty cool character either side of the ropes. Fingers crossed for you Jeff :TU:

To answer Mr Crusader, an A Star Class referee in Britain is allowed to officiate over any contest should it be major or minor, from 4rounds to 12 rounds. He can also officiate over World title contests all over the world as well as in the UK, he can also be called upon to judge a contest anywhere in the world, this you cannot do if you are an A or B class referee licenced by The BBBofC, & of course you can officiate at Prizefighter which for some strange reason only A Star referees can do although the contests are only over 3X3 minute rounds. Go for it Jeff & lets hope that you will soon be saying gentlemen 12 rounds or less for the title. :TU:

Same. Always struck me as a fair ref, & by that I don't just mean rulebook-wise but is incredibly sensitive to the realities of the sport on the ground & doesn't tend to stop fights just 'cos the promoter's boy is doing well or let someone take more of a shoeing so the favoured lad can look good.

A good bloke.

Jeff's handling of the tragic Michael Norgrove contest was absolutely 1st class & could not be faulted, I spoke to him a short while after & he was genuinely upset & in my mind this says a lot about the man. I hope that all goes well for him & he fulfils his dream of becoming an A Star class referee.

All A referees are considered for upgrading to A star twice a year every year

Good luck to Jeff, what does he have to do now, does he just get monitored, surely they have seen enough of him if he's been around so long? Does anyone know how many A star referees there are, and who else is in the pipeline for moving up.

Not sure exactly how many A star refs there are but I do know that all referees are considered for upgrading twice a year

For me one of the best and most consistent referees in British Boxing.

When I see he is reffing a bout I know it'll be fair.

Jeff's stoppages in the contests between John McDermott v Larry Olubamiwo and Danny Watts v Mark Potter were absolutely sublime.

These are two reasons why Jeff should be upgraded to a Star now.

This is brilliant news , Jeff is a great ref and the best ref in England , he not a man to stop fights at stupid times when the fighter is ok , he gives the people what there want too see , a good old tear up. He knows when to step in to stop a fight. This is well overdue . This should off happened way back. Just don't understand why it's taken this long , while other refs come and do less time then Jeff , and a star ref in little time. For me that a big question mark???? Well I am happy , it's about time . Well done Jeff congratulation Wishing u all the best. TIME TO SHINE.

Yes. Jeff has served his time, done the hard yards and deserves the accolade of A Star referee.

Go Jeff.

It's always good when somebody grafts their way up the pole. Good on him. The hard work starts now, though. Big match scrutiny and big match pressure.

That's what I'm thinking. I've seen him ref tons of fights- he's one of the most notable refs in my eyes.
