Dariusz Michalczewski vs. Roy Jones Jr.

Post by Duch »

Who would win and why? I predict that the vast majority will indicate Roy.

Then how good was Michalczewski in your view?

Roy for sure. Dariusz was a good fighter just how good I really don't know, but he wasn't gonna beat Roy I know that beyond any doubt.

Hi

Until Roy lost for real he was considered unbeatable and up there with the greatest fighters who ever lived. When he finally retires history will judge him very highly I should think. I certainly do and I certainly think he would have beaten Dariusz quite easily.
I rate Roy above Mayweather anyway P4P.

Plus the guy that eventually went on to end Dariusz's unbeaten streak Julio Gonzalez (hell I think that's his name) was schooled and beaten in one sided fashion by Roy several years earlier.

I know that's not always the indicator for how a fight between other guys might go, but I feel quite certain that Roy would've been too much for Michalczewski.

I think that if Roy had not jumped to Heavyweight and back and then lost his legs there wouldn't even be a debate about this. Roy was almost as unbeatable as a fighter gets in his prime. An all-time great.
He seemed to get away with a steroid failed test however which is saddening..

Roy by TKO in midrounds or wide decision

Lopsided decision far more likely.

You are probably right about RJJ-Michalczewski result, but Julio Gonzalez has nothing to do with it. He won with past prime Michalczewski in rather unconvincing fashion (I would say it was bad decision, though do not want to split hairs over scoring).

The same way one could see the fight in favour of Michalczewski - comparing them by Griffin fight ;-)

Roy by wide UD, way too fast and sharp at his best, it would have looked like, well....most Jones fights around that time.

DM was good, I just don't think he was on that level. I don't think Jones comes close to stopping him though, he was solid.

I favor Roy be decision, but think it's faulty to think it'd be "just another one-sided domination." Michalczewski was clearly superior to the cab drivers and such Roy was feasting on in HBO in the late 90s; he dominated Hill and Griffith. I think it would've been competitive but Roy edges him in a fight in which he's derided for stinking out the joint afterwards. 7-5 or 8-4 type fight.

Agree. DM wasn't quite as good, but good enough that he would have had an outside chance. Which is why Jones and HBO ignored him. It was the only fight out there for several years. What a shame.
