At welter

Duran (srr/ud in 1st fight srr/ud in second srr/ko10 in 3rd fight)

Leonard (srr/ud leonards get outboxed in 2 out of 3 fights 3rd a disapointing and controversial draw thats if leonard doesnt avoid him after first and second defeat)

Hearns (reach advantage might trouble robinson still ud might turn into a war with both figther being knocked down hearns has a higher probability of staying in the canvas in first match. only 1 rematch hearns wins having robinson down once in the 3rd winning by an sd )

At middle

Haglers (early rounds robinson outboxes middle round turns into a war robinson still ahead in points robinson gets floored once in the 9th haglers is rocked a couple of times of course iron chinned wont go down but in everybody eyes robinson wins close ud)

And with this resume srr is no longer all time p4p he is THE GOD OF BOXING!!!

Truth is that Srr is the reason why p4p ranking exists
Greatest welter all time. lightweight Duran wouldnt be enough

Better than leonard in every department

and if he past his prime could get the middle weight title another 4 times and during his prime outbox for 13 lh joey maxim at 103 degrees of heat
he could beat a very tough and respected hagler in his prime.

Toughest matchup would really be hearns because lets face it hearns is a nightmare for nearly every welter lm or middle in the planet too tall too strong great skills especially offensively and even with those assets he had the probability of getting ko.

At welterweight or middleweight (result the same):

vs. Duran: Robinson W 15
vs. Leonard: Robinson W 15
vs. Hagler: Robinson W 15

vs. Hearns: Robinson TKO 12 @ Welter/TKO 14 @ Middle

..these guys would press him, so he'd probably go for the knockout and win with it.,

the exception would be sugar ray leonard...and easy points win...unless ray got pissed because leonard used the "sugar " name...then he'd kayo him easily...as he did with sugar costner twice...first round...for the reason stated. (and costner was as good at welter as anyone on this list)

people mistaaken the middleweight version robinson as being past his prime. the post retirement 1955-57 version was well past his prime, yes.

but the middleweight version we take in fantasy matchups is the still prime 1951 29 year old robinson who dismantled jake la motta in st valentines day massacre.

robinson at his peak as a welterweight

robinson 15 unanimous leonard

robinson 15 unanimous duran

robinson KO 9 tommy hearns

at middle

1981 hagler vs 1951 robinson

robinson 15 split decision

No, I don't think that Robinson is over rated.

But comments saying Robinson could knock out Leonard if he felt like it, are pretty rediculous.

I agree...Robinson certainly isn't overated, but he most definatley could not just call out a knockout against great fighters whenever he chose to...if that was the case no one would have ever lasted the distance with him and he would have been undefeated in 200 bouts!

..admit i can go overboard on robinson.....maybe a decision over hagler instead of a knockout is a better guess ..and guess is what all these opinions really are......mine and everybody else's.

.....except for leonard, whom robinson would kayo anytime he felt like it...or give the crowd a boxing exhibition as he did with charlie fusari.

Robinson decisions Haglar, Duran and Leonard. He kayo's Hearns but has the most trouble with him.

No fighter in boxing history, from middleweight down, beats prime Leonard easy. In fact besides Robinson and maybe Armstrong, no welterweight was ever better.

..robinson would have kayoed the candy ass usurper of his nickname at any time he chose. if he was upset by the nickname, as, i pointed he was with george costner , and as he was with middleweight jose basora who held himn to a draw....rematch kayo by robinson round one.....cut eye could have stopped him in turpin fight, so he opens up with a barrage and stops him......how would leonard have defended against a highly motivated taller, faster, better boxer and harder hitter?

funny story...he was fighting dave clark in pittsburgh ...clark's home town at the time....and it was understood that if clark didn't press him robinson would just give the crowd a good boxing match. clark gets cute in round one and smacks him with a decent shot. (this ctory comes from someone in clark's corner.) bell rings. round two...robinson does a little flexing motion with his arms. guy in clark's corner says "damn...we told him"..and robinson flattens clark.

it was not unusual for robinson and other fighters of the era not to go for the knockout every match. but...this is another story, which i will go into later.

but..more sugar ray (the real one) he's welter champion now and in wilkes-barre. it's an over-the-weight match. his opponent.. gene buffalo local guy...comes in under 147...which makes srr's title at stake. no boxing match...boom...the buffalo is felled in round one.

Artie levine..cleveland...tough middleweight. robinson not yet welter champion. levine knocks robinson down and ray is really hurt. this is round nine. round ten. kayo by robinson. (this fight, by the way, is five days after robinson kayoes cecil hudson in detroit, and a month after decision over ossie harris in pittsburgh.

back to sugar ray leonard...good boxer...good puncher......but..come on...hell...he had to get all the concessions he wanted before he'd even get into the ring with a hagler who was a bit past his prime..and even then the decision (i think candy ass won) is not excepted by many wise boxing folks. how leonard does against robinson is exactly how robinson decides he will.
