Norfolk was not based out of Baltimore at this time. He was based out of New York as part of Leo P Flynns stable and attached to Grupps gym.
How was the first Greb-Norfolk bout A. a theft and B. a decision? It was a no decision with more first hand accounts giving the bout to Greb on a one round swing. It was an incredibly close and competetive bout in which Norfolk outweighed Greb by 20 pounds but at the end of the fight was being battered in a corner and was forced to cancel all of his fights afterwards and spend a nice stay in the hospital.
He was unbeatable at 170? Really? Tell that to the journeyman Tommy Connors who was outweight by Norfolk and whipped him handily. Tell that to Gus Christie who knocked his teeth out in Buffalo, tell that Jeff Clark, or Gunboat Smith who drew with him in Buffalo, Tell that to Clay Turner who dropped him and beat him twice. Tell that to Lee Anderson who stopped him. Shall I continue?
Norfolks best weight was about 180, not 170. In 1917 when a fight between he and Greb was talked about Norfolk refused to come down to 175 for the match, ought to tell you something.
For someone who supposedly bought my book youd think youd be better educated on this fight. This fight will be an interesting test of El Douche's ability to spew bullshit. Im betting Douche cant come up with more than one first hand account, if he can even come up with that many. Im interested in seeing how he reconciles those accounts with Norfolk "beating up and running over Greb."
The majority of accounts view this bout more as a wrestling match than a boxing match as it quickly devolved into a very dirty bout when Norfolk reputedly first kidney punched Greb and then butted, pushed, or threw Greb out of the ring. Despite the DQ loss on Greb's record the commissioner stated publicly that Norfolk should have been DQd and that he expected the result to be changed.
School is dismissed for now...
