You decide - One name - THE GREATEST FIGHTER WHO EVER LIVED.
Interesting to get a defintive answer from each contributor.
As a poll, just the name. No need for reasons or evidence at first.
I was going to put this as a poll but no doubt I would have infuriated many people with the names I placed on the list not to mention the names I would have omitted.
Now the hard part. Take your time but just name ONE fighter.
The greatest boxer to have ever breathed, in your eyes.
Great doesn't necessarily have to mean "most technically complete".
Just the Greatest fighter ever in your opinion.

Harry Greb.
Tough choice between him and Sam Langford for me with Ray Robinson close.

So you don't rate boxers from the past. Big deal. Achilles might not have even existed. Greb did. Get over yourself man.

May I ask a 'silly question'.
Just how many bouts of Harry Greb's did you attend...... :??
Around the same amount of Tiger Flowers fights you attended.

it's a joke you dounut , some of you are as bad as bible bashers ,you can't see anyone else's opinion..
let's be honest you haven't a clue how good greb was just as i have no idea how good gypsy gem mace was because you haven't seen him box you are only repeating something someone else was told who in turn is repeating what he was told it's like some saying that the beatles are the greatest band ever they had more records than anyone ,more number ones and a longer career which all sounds good BUT you have never heard them so how can you claim something you have never heard as the best ,you may hear them and realize that in fact you don't think they are that great.
the best fighter i have seen was sugar ray leonard

So, the greatest fighter p4p?
And a poll has only 10 options...
Well, good luck

I probably go with Greb or Robinson hard to choose one

Since greatest to me would mean.in the context of this forum.... Who would most likely endure in the greatest number of head to head boxing matches......NOT pound for pound and Must be human.
It would likely be a heavyweight by virtue of bulk.
Other wise pound for pound it would end up an insect......and overall maybe a hippo.

The Greatest and most complete fighter I've ever seen with my own two eyes is Sugar Ray Robinson.
Re: You decide - One name - THE GREATEST FIGHTER WHO EVER LIVED.
Yes, it's unfortunate that there's very little of his Welterweight prime available...but the fact that he was 123-2 After 125 fights...I mean. That says it all, and he was still a fantastic fighter even late in his career.BarryWashington wrote:I guess Sugar Ray Robinson but he lacked a defense as good as his offense and had some questionable fights go his way.
And there's very little of his true prime available but with all that said he has the best claim for all time #1p4p
I've definitely seen a lot of the great and not so great performances of Robinson. I think I've seen performances that were at least close to his best.
Re: You decide - One name - THE GREATEST FIGHTER WHO EVER LIVED.
I don't see him as invincible, I just think he would be the favorite against a great deal of fighters in mythical matchups. There are some guys that I'd favor over him, like say Roy Jones Jr.BarryWashington wrote:He had some fights where it was questionable calling :
Servo II
Basora I
La Motta V
Brimm II
Abrams
Not trying to down play SRR at all - just some people make him out to be invincible
Re: You decide - One name - THE GREATEST FIGHTER WHO EVER LIVED.
I mean, considering that Ralph "Tiger" Jones was able to beat Robinson, I gotta think Roy could have too. I don't necessarily think that Roy is a better fighter than Robinson, but I think he'd be a tough style matchup for Ray to deal with.BarryWashington wrote:Roy could definitely beat SRR
Hard fight to call

The best fighter I've seen in my lifetime is Roberto Duran.

Langford.
Best i've seen, has to be one of the fab four, i'd say Duran.

The greatest fighter that I have ever seen in my lifetime is the great Roberto Duran. Nothing else to me, come close.
The greatest fighter that I have considered pound per pound of all times, is the great Henry Armstrong.
Armstrong vs Duran would have been one of the greatest fights in history.

I'm sure nobody on this Forum would have any problem with that pick. We are all knowledgable and fair minded here.
Some people are changing the question to "In their lifetime". In my lifetime, Ray Leonard would be the obvious pick; Ali's was at his best a little before I was born.
For the orginal question of the Greatest Fighter Whoever Lived? I will go with Ray Robinson. However, there are a few right behind him that I have no problem with someone else picking.

The greatest fighter would be the one person that you could put in a room against any and all comers and he would be the one to walk out....I would pick Fedor Emelianenko.
The one BOXER I would choose would be the one who could be matched against ANY other in a boxing match and be declared the winner....That would be Muhammad Ali
