RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
It's a shame this fight never happened - Ruddock at his fearsome best in '91 and Bowe a year away from the title. . . who would have won this one??

Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
Ruddock never really had the skills did he. A crude but powerful guy. I think Bowe would take him to school in around 8.
Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
riddick bowe ducked razor ruddock 2 times one time to fight phil brown instead and the 2nd time he picked peirre coetzer and opted to go the wba route to title shot intead of the wbc route...ruddock was ranked #1 by beating greg page and the ruddock camp wanted bowe/ bowe ran to the south african fighter instead...ps riddick bowe was razor ruddocks sparring partner when ruddock fought bonecrusher smith..
in 1991 i would say ruddock would have knocked out riddick bowe..

Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
Ruddock by stoppage in 5.
Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
I also pick Ruddock by ko between four and seven rounds...

Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
Ruddock for me.
Bowe didn't want any part of him & although Bowe was game & had good in-fighting skills, he was easy to hit at times; couple that with the fact that he was obviously wary of Ruddock would have meant he wouldn't have been mentally prepared for Ruddock.

Bowe had the option to go via the WBC & fight Ruddock, but he took the easier (on paper) WBA route to the title, thus leaving Lewis to face Ruddock.
As we all know, Lewis pulverised Ruddock before he'd even got warmed up & from that point on, Team Bowe decided that they'd never fight Lennox Lewis.

I am not always a big believer in that just because a fighter's management kept him away from a certain opponent, that its a clear indication that the latter of the two would win had they met. Bowe was on a steady yet fast track towards the title, and in boxing, you don't jeopardize that endeavor just to prove that you're not afraid of a rough edge. Nobody wanted anything to do with Ruddock in 1991, but then again he was also heavily hyped and while his win list had plenty of names, the names belied the actual quality given that most of them were shot. Donoven was a big guy with a big punch.. Good nickname.. Entertaining style.. But the hype got out of hand. Bowe was a very well rounded and well managed professional on the verge of peaking. He was consistently active and performing consistently well. In 1991, he wasn't going to have the conditioning or stamina problems that Bone crusher Smith had in 89' who incidentally floored ruddock in the second round, despite being off for an extended period, showing up at 249 lbs and being 36 years old..
I like Bowe by decision or late Stoppage over Ruddock in 1991, but it would be no easy task.

Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
So we're picking the guy who got stopped by Dave Jaco, beaten twice by Tyson, and blasted out in a round a year later against Lewis to stop Bowe, who was never stopped by anyone, took two wins against a 2 division ATG in Holyfield, and was, to my knowledge, only down once in his career? Ruddock was exciting, but ultimately didn't have what it took; the Tyson fights say more about how much Tyson had lost than what Ruddock had gained. Bowe KO by 8.
Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
I'd take Bowe KO 8 as well.SamWise72 wrote:So we're picking the guy who got stopped by Dave Jaco, beaten twice by Tyson, and blasted out in a round a year later against Lewis to stop Bowe, who was never stopped by anyone, took two wins against a 2 division ATG in Holyfield, and was, to my knowledge, only down once in his career? I'm So sorry. The correct answer is "WHO IS Riddick Bowe".
Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
styles make fights.............and golota beat on bowe 2x and ruddock had an asthma attack against jaco stop going boxrecing for infoSamWise72 wrote:So we're picking the guy who got stopped by Dave Jaco, beaten twice by Tyson, and blasted out in a round a year later against Lewis to stop Bowe, who was never stopped by anyone, took two wins against a 2 division ATG in Holyfield, and was, to my knowledge, only down once in his career? Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
Bowe and Holyfield would have worn down Razor for a second half stoppage.
Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
Holyfield knocked Bowe down in the 6th round of their third fight. Golota knocked him down twice (2nd and 5th rounds of their second fight).SamWise72 wrote:So we're picking the guy who got stopped by Dave Jaco, beaten twice by Tyson, and blasted out in a round a year later against Lewis to stop Bowe, who was never stopped by anyone, took two wins against a 2 division ATG in Holyfield, and was, to my knowledge, only down once in his career? Re: RAZOR RUDDOCK VS RIDDICK BOWE 1991
I wasn't aware of the kds in the second Golota fight, but regardless, I can't see anything Ruddock did that's going to seriously trouble peak Bowe.
