Nigel Benn vs Geral McClellan. The tragic end. The ref.

Post by marchegianorock »

This is another great fight that ended in controversy and tragic. My point of view is this. 1.- The Ref. Poor work of this ref. A frenchman. I beleived and probably most of boxing experts that any other good ref would had stopped that fight in the first round when McClellan was landing on a semiunconciuous Benn sitting on the ropes. The ref stepped in, if he stepped in that would had be a t.k.o. He stopped McClellan to keep landing punches on Benn. Take a look at Cooney vs Norton fight. The ref allowed at least 8 punches to the back of MacClellan head. With no points deductions or disqualification . The eight round again MacClellan landing big punches on Benn and the ref allowed the fight to continue. There was no drug test on Nigel Benn after the fight. 2.- Emmanuel Steward was not at McClellan corner another big mistake. 3.- the mouthpiece. For 10 rounds Gerald was fighting with his mouthpiece out of his mouth how in the world the english boxing commision and the ref allowed that? I beleive if Gerald would had been healthy and the fight would go on. Without his brain injury he would had tko or ko Benn.

So you don't have proof. Wake me up when you do.

A quote on a forum linked to the newspaper that is up to its neck in liable cases.

When I said proof, I actually meant proof.
