Best jab of all time in any division?
Best jab of all time in any division?
Kicking things off with Larry Holmes.......
Re: Best jab of all time in any division?
ike quartey
Re: Best jab of all time in any division?
Marvin Hagler
Re: Best jab of all time in any division?
this thread's gonna be like separating the atom. Ronald Winky Wright and Roy Jones Jnr both had nice jabs for me. Frank Bruno had an effective, powerful jab, but he'd freeze when he got caught.

To me, pound per pound best jab in history was the one of the great Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns. What a jab. Fast, quick like lightning.
Re: Best jab of all time in any division?
Quartey's jab was almost like a lead left hand.
I always liked Ricardo Lopez' jab, so technical and accurate.
Arguello had a good jab too.

Hearns
Holmes
Hagler's was the best right jab I've seen by quite a long way
good call on Ricardo Lopez, I'd add another Nacho guy Rafael Marquez to the list too, his jab was a great combination of speed, with sledgehammer power.
Virgil Hill; 20-odd defences throwing almost nothing but jabs, you gotta know his jab was a good one
McCallum, interestingly, cites Don Curry's jab as (I'm paraphrasing) a thing of beauty, something like 'he was a baaaad man with that jab'
umm. probably more to think of

i think wlad deserves an honorable mentioning
as a very solid jabber. the only man i think in
heavy weight history who settled a title fight
with jabs only.

Sonny Liston.
Re: Best jab of all time in any division?
No one rate Ali's jab??
Re: Best jab of all time in any division?
One of the Great Heavyweight Champions, take your pick.
Larry Holmes
Sonny Liston
Wladimir Klitschko
Lennox Lewis
I'll tell you a guy who has a great jab that often goes unnoticed as it's just blending in with the rest of his offense, but Miguel Cotto has always had a great jab and uses it very well.

Benny Leonard, Holmes & Hearns.

Well his jab was excellent. But I think his combinations were his signature.raylawpc wrote:Evidentially not . . .evrenb wrote:No one rate Ali's jab??
Besides, I have found to print that name in any positive way, gets a certain contributor to hit the search button, and go off on a tangent with her rebuttal. So...it's a good idea to keep all things M.A. on the Q.T.

Pinklon Thomas had a very nice jab for which he hasn't been given enough credit.

That's like saying Tyson exposed Larry's jab as Holmes could do jack with it in their fight (massacre)

Good shout....been watching a fair bit on Pinky recently and even in later years his jab was great. .Chuck1052 wrote:Pinklon Thomas had a very nice jab for which he hasn't been given enough credit.
