Eddie Hearn offers $5 million to Khan for Brook
Re: Eddie Hearn offers $5 million to Khan for Brook
Definitely a huge fight in the UK this and would have appeal in the US. Wouldn't harm either of them. Big payday winner is a contender for the titles.
Id rather Kell fight Porter win the belt and then fight Khan.

Re: Eddie Hearn offers $5 million to Khan for Brook
In terms of revenue and size of fight, but let's be honest, this is a pointless fight. Khan has been stopped at lw, and lww, has no credible wins at ww and hasn't had a meaningful fight in nearly two years. But I suppose if your only concern is how the fight will play in England then yes, you're right. It's that exact ignorance that Hearn is hoping to play on with the public.mickey1975 wrote: In England, it does. It's far, far bigger than the Porter fight.
It would be even bigger with a title and if Khan actually proved he belonged at this weight with a decent win.

Well I'm not ignorant and I would be intrigued by it. People on here go on like Khan is a bum when he isn't. He is a world class fighter.SNG wrote:In terms of revenue and size of fight, but let's be honest, this is a pointless fight. I understand what you are saying but for some reason Khan is held in higher esteem than he should be hence why he is being lined up as a possible Mayweather opponent.SNG wrote:In terms of revenue and size of fight, but let's be honest, this is a pointless fight. Its also personal for Brook, given Khan has been dismissive of him for years.
Re: Eddie Hearn offers $5 million to Khan for Brook
I don't think you're ignorant, but surely you can admit that Khan is unproven at the weight and with being blown away at LW and LWW there's every reason to believe he wouldn't be a top class WW.mickey1975 wrote:Well I'm not ignorant and I would be intrigued by it. To be fair I don't think Brook is a top class WW, and I certainly don't see Khan as being a bum. I see this as an attempt at a short cut for Hearn to get Brook into the limelight. It's a huge fight without the risk any of the proven top WW would bring.
Re: Eddie Hearn offers $5 million to Khan for Brook
Seeing as though they've been in different weight classes and mixing in completely different classes of opponents being dismissive is understandable. When is Brook going to fight a top ww? It's been the next fight for three years.lillywhite14 wrote:I understand what you are saying but for some reason Khan is held in higher esteem than he should be hence why he is being lined up as a possible Mayweather opponent.SNG wrote:In terms of revenue and size of fight, but let's be honest, this is a pointless fight. I don't know!
Brooks career has been frustrating to say the least.

guess what, I'm from Yorkshire myself and I know the hangdog mentality that prevents them from performing to their best, if at all. I can see the sulking in their faces at times and I can see the negative body language. (there's traces of it domestically, a surliness of performance, but it's compounded away from home, especially America.)Pugilist-specialist wrote: It hasn't anything to do with where they're from. You've used Naz as an example when he only lost once in his career. Hatton lost twice in America.
You provide a couple of examples of Johnny not opening up in the early rounds (he won both fights). Guess what - he also did that at Sheffield City Hall and didn't win.
Johnny is not a good example for your Yorkie-bashing theory. He won fights in 9 different countries (10 if you count the ridiculous decisions twice in Brazil). Can you name some British fight, ers who travelled better?
I even see this attitude in the pig-eyed, in bred mentality of my colleagues.
naz went up against something a bit different in barrera, just did the same thing all night. woods had fought positively at home, and didn't make too much effort to beat tarver. witter and nelson always had temperament problems anyway - witter was pretty much blacklisted by showtime having spoiled vs Judah on a Tyson undercard...in America he was destroying ndou, but when the south African fought back witter was getting all flaky, losing rounds, falling over, trying desperation punches. like I say about nelson, ppl were shittingthemselves for him to even punch, vs sellers & cantatore, in away fights defending his title. (many of johnny's fights to which you allude were non title, journeyman type of outings). warring, another johnny non performance - in America (though he had one at home, bore draw vs de leon). Rhodes-alvarez, another 'un.
I'm from Yorkshire & a yorkie knows when he's licked. this is not to denigrate their good work, notably naz-robinson, woods-hoye, Rhodes-moore, nelson-Dominguez & Thompson, witter-harris - all of which I gave them tremendous credit for. really doubt johnny would've travelled well vs mormeck or bell or Braithwaite in their primes, on showtime when the division was getting showcased in fights that mattered.

Naz lost one fight in his career when his preparation was terrible. Witter boxed Judah in Glasgow on a weeks notice. Alvarez is a good fighter - I think your clutching at straws.Autobarn wrote:guess what, I'm from Yorkshire myself and I know the hangdog mentality that prevents them from performing to their best, if at all. You won't tell us which area of Britain produces fighters that never lose in the States.
You still haven't named some British fighters who have won in more countries than Nelson.

This is surely a wind up post ?!?!?! You seek to make the point that Yorkshire fighters have some sort of genetic defect preventing them from winning away from home when it really matters, yet you acknowledge many great away performances from Yorkshire fighters, and magnanimously point out "I gave them tremendous credit". How generous
If there is a problem with Yorkshire fighters travelling well, how come Naz and Paul Ingle both won world title fights at Madison Square Garden ?
You speak of your colleagues as having a pig eye, in-bred mentality. I wonder what they have to say about you ?!

Crawford Ashley won and lost a few on the road. Thinking about it, Yorkshire fighters seem keener to travel than other areas, Tony Booth would fight literally anywhere.

Richard Dunn lost a world heavyweight title fight in Germany but you would struggle to attribute the loss to him being from Yorkshire really...
Re: Eddie Hearn offers $5 million to Khan for Brook
jim, are you an English language student, wading through my verbal rhetoric? you'll never get through my layers of genuine argument, genuine wind up, and the bits that blur together in between.
pug, my claim was the sulky attitude of Yorkshire, mainly Sheffield fighters in the biggest fights, wherever the biggest fights are, & my examples were from around 2003 onward - woods-tarver, witter-n'dou, witter-alexander, Rhodes-alvarez. if johnny nelson had travelled for cruiserweight unifications when jc gomez & tiozzo/hill were champs (late '90s), or especially when showtime were staging moderately big 200-pound unifications involving bruisers like bell, mormeck & Braithwaite (early/mid '00s), I'd have expected a new level of negativity from nelson, who was hesitant enough in his minor fight with cantatore in Italy. johnny left it very late to produce in that one.
paul ingle I do not rank in the same category. he was a swarmer, high volume and always fought positively.
look at the recent Lancashire fighters, such as khan (doesn't fight intelligently but is often very positive) in fights with man of the moment maidana, Judah, malignaggi (these 2 americans were very eager to hold & then get behind amir & hug him), vs Peterson there were good exchanges, albeit desperate ones, vs Garcia he was going for it before getting splattered...john murray met an over the weight Brandon rios head on for about 5 rounds, a few things got him down in that fight, but he snapped himself out of it to land good straight shots on rios late on before being overpowered with the uppercut...macklin - at one time with the "hitman" hatton crowd - produced fine boxing AND pressed the fight vs Sergio Martinez, who had to rally to change the tide that was going against him...martin murray, while not using the highest of workrates, boxed well enough vs sturm & Martinez to receive controversial blemishes (a draw and narrow defeat) in Germany & America. going back a bit, hatton in his worst results (pac and mayweather) was hardly negative - blown away and outclassed respectively. he tried vs mayweather, it just didn't get him anywhere once mayweather got that bit of time and space to get into that rhythm. hatton was positive vs collazo, walking through a lot of right hooks that blindsided and stunned him; he got stuck in vs Castillo, and boxed intelligently and assertively vs malignaggi. he was awful v urango, holding all night and barely boxing, but it can be argued he wasn't fit to fight that night.
the Yorkshire fighters I mention further up, I cannot even actually recall a good exchange of punches, never mind a positive performance in a big fight away from home.

So far we've got Hatton getting stopped once and knocked out once, Murray taking an absolute hiding, Khan getting beat and also beat up and Jennings putting in a "Nelson on a bad night" performance. Any other areas you would like me to pick to pieces. Wales? Calzaghe did ok, not so Lockett and Rees. Next?

Yep you've only got to look at how Barker took it to Sturm to realise this is a Yorkshire thing.
Answer the question Autobarn name another UK World Champion who got on his bike more than Nelson.
