Just Watched Mcbride-Tyson (US version) & have some thou

1 - Tyson was tired and undertrained, but McBride should be congratulated on how he fought. I was very surprised, he boxed an intelligent fight. Leant on Tyson, hit him with jabs, put in some great uppercuts inside and showed a lot of heart.

2. The US commentary was ATROCIOUS. So biased and pro-Tyson. The number of times they go on about Tyson's bodyshots and how sore Mcbride will be...whilst ignoring a lot of Kevin's work and I thought McBride was taking the body shots really well - never seemed hurt by them.

3. The crowd were out of order, even booing McBride after he was declared the winner.

4. Tyson was SOOOO dirty - and it amazed me how the commnetary team were asking whether a truly blatant headbutt that cut McBride was deliberate??!!!

5. Another grumble about teh US commentary - they were constantly mentioning Irish politics / rebellion / Michael Collins etc - really unprofessional in a sporting contest (One of them even offered the predictable 'I'm half Irish' bollocks - why is it that 50% of Americans reckon they're Irish?)

Did you get to hear Fenech's interview - saying that he was proud of that effort and before he went to him, he wouldn't have done a round. A little disrepectful to Freddie Roach, who at least got Tyson back to his old fighting weight vs Etteine and he was a much better fighter vs Williams.

I've not seen the fight but it sounds like a similar line of commentary to when Tyson fought Danny Williams. Very pro Tyson and ready to call the fight as over whenever Tyson landed.

With home fighters comentators are looking for what they do well, partly just natural I Guess.

Wonder what the commentry is like in germany, "and look he is visiously headbuting Ottke's sholder, and look he just headbuted his elbow."

Yes they are biased too in Germany. But there has not been a blatant high profile robbery lately ( with the exception of the Tsypko Magee fight) so the commentary hasn't been that much of.

But it is sometimes funny to hear a very biased commentator when they get it all wrong.

Was it HBO commentators?

I remember seeing American footage of a Naz fight and 2 HBO commentators absolutley hated Naz and were pileing into him but big George was on Nazs' side and he started getting very arsey and aggressive towrds the other 2 commentators. I think one might have been Larry Merchant, not sure of the other one.

Was that Naz vs Kelly? I recall from that fight that, as far as the commentators were concerned, Kelly only had to fart in Naz's general direction and he was "hurt" etc... Seemed so 'pro-Kelly'.

Not sure, I think it was the Augie Sanchez fight, but I have seen the Kelly fight also and that was a joke!

worst commentary ever ?

JIM 'Grim' Rosenthal for the Dennies Andries v Tommy Hearns lt heavy fight...... anyone remember that ? Grim had the annoying habit of saying 'he's stopped a punch' when a fighter got hit ????

cant remember the commentary specifically funso but i remember dennis getting up about ten times off the floor, and i seem to remember it was fought in hearns home town with a partisan crowd. he was a gutsy so and so andries.

Yeah, last time I went to the US I went to an 'Irish' bar (there seems to be one on every corner) and I mean a very commercial one; and there were pictures of the Pope and Gerry Adams up, and a few Yank punters in Irish quilts doing Riverdance-like dancing.... very funny. When one of the Yanks heard I was English he started talking to me really aggressvely in a fake strong Irish accent....

....mind you, I must say they made a really good Guinness and Beef pie....

PS as per the commentary, can't remember the team (have given the video back) but think I heard that fat pig (the Bogus 'Colonel') Bob Sheridan....

It was Showtime.

Watch it again and turn off the volume. You'll be hardpressed to score a single round for Tyson. Then play it again and just listen to it. You'd think McBride was reading to drop any moment.

And I was at the Williams fight. 16000 people of which 15997 were cheering for Tyson. A certain segmant of the US population really gets worked up over Iron Mike.

Not sure what US version you saw, but the one I watched had nothing about politics in the telecast. It was Steve Albert and Al Bernstein.

I know what you mean but Tyson has had the same impact whenever he has fought abroad aswell..........Tyson is a global star, remember the scenes at Manchester when he fought Francis-that was unreal.

Not trying to sound like a Tyson suck ass but it will be a long time before any fighter has the same global impact that he did.

Freddie Roach is a much better trainer for for Tyson than Jeff Fenech is. Freddie got Tyson's weight down 225lbs when he fought Etienne.

Since then, Mike has never been below 233lbs. When he fought Etienne, Mike looked in shape and in condition. Since then, I do not believe he has been in real, tip-top shape like that!

Tyson may have looked in shape against Williams and McBride, but I reckon a lot of that has to do with the amount of weight-lifting he was probably doing.

If Mike does decide to fight Tarver, he should hire Roach and not Fenech. Freddie will take on shit and allow no slacking from Mike, and Mike knows this!
