I like this one, I like this one a lot. Cermeno is a crafty bugger and will EASILY be the best opponent Quigg has faced.
I did actually expect Cermeno v Escandon II but this is great. Well done to Quigg for taking it.

He's lost 5 of his last 9 though and even one of them was a draw! On top of that he's 34 so he's not exactly in his prime. Particularily for the lower weight classes.

It's a big ask to fill the arena, which Eddie expects to, for this. It's not a bad match, but it is a huge arena.

True he's lost 5 of his last 9. They included a a controversial decision to Terrazas in Mexico, an injury retirement (boxrec have body though I think it was actually an arm) against Montiel and 2 losses to Anselmo Moreno.

How do you think Quigg would have fared against Montiel, Moreno, Terrazas, or Bahktin?

And lets not forget the draw came to the same guy Quigg drew with.

At 34 he is old but with 191 rounds on the clock he's not really had the wear and tear of some younger fighters.

Cermeno is definitely not a crap opponent, Columbo. He was extremely unlucky to be on the wrong side of a few of those decisions. Possibly gone past his prime a little bit but he will be a tough test for Quigg.

Wasnt Terrazas the guy who was stopped by Rendall Munroe?

Ok crap is harsh but he's ranked 49th on Boxrec which doesnt say a lot and they should be trying to match Quigg with the likes of Martinez and co and even some of the guys just below that.

Yup, he's also the guy who beat who beat Mijares and Montiel.

Cermeno is no puncher, hence him not stoping the "Vinkingo" but he's tricky, difficult and the type of guy who could give Quigg fits if he's just 90% of the fighter he was.

I think the Escandon fight might have taken something out of him but be'll never be an easy opponent for anyone due to his frustrating style.

The one stoppage loss he does have though says it was the result of a body shot? I didnt see the fight so I cant comment but if he can be hurt to the body that doesnt bode well against Quigg whose greatest strength is probably his body punching.

Really not sure what to make of that. It some ways, it looked like he just quit. I cant see how he got injured. You could say it was his arm but when he was walking back towards his corner, he didnt give off the impression that it was his arm that was bothering him.

My memory is hazy, too many long nights. Yeah not his arm but no idea what it was. Having seen the 2 rounds of the fight it's difficult to see why he quit as he wasn't taking much.

Eddie will have to put together another of his legendary 'stacked cards' to ensure this one is anything close to a sell out.

I've seen most of Cermeno's last ten fights and he's fairly on the slide now. Four and a half years ago he was an excellent wee fighter and was superb in his back to back upset wins over Mijares adnclose back to back losses against Moreno. However he wasn't a huge Bantam and looks like a small, aged Superbantam. Terrazes is a good fighter but his record is a bit padded and he was really poor against Bakhtin. Bakhtin isn't a puncher by any means and Cermeno looked small, weary and a bit bullied in the fight. Bakhtin also has a very padded record and didn't look very special vs Cermeno, whilst almost shutting him out.
It's a reasonable fight in the sense that Quigg isn't a world champion and it's a good learning fight for him but I don't think it'll be particularly competitive, it shouldn't be sold as a world title fight (which it really isn't anyway) and it is no headline bout!
Just to clarify though I think Quigg's a good wee fighter and that he'll do well. I'm not having a go at him, just calling it as I see it :TU:

that arena can be quite easily adapted to hold less though reckon it'll be set up for about 10,000

lol, good question. I know Moreno, at the very least, would stand Quigg on his fvcking head.

Yep they will set it up for around 10,000 and if they get around that Eddie will be more then happy because 10,000 is a very decent crowd for this type of show.

Cermeno drew with Salinas just over 2 years ago, since then, realistically one of those fighters has improved and the other, Cermeno, has slipped further. So while Quigg is stepping up compared to his last fight, he's fighting a worse opponent than Salinas.

Cermeno is also based in Panama and that fight took place in Panama I think. Salina's might of got shafted.
