Bruno Arcari ~ "Should have been a 3-Weight Division Champ"
Re: Bruno Arcari ~ 'The First 3-Weight Division Champion"
So you say . . .
Re: Bruno Arcari ~ 'The First 3-Weight Division Champion"
Pretty good fantasy fight. Arcari was a strong southpaw mofo, but I think Napoles still had enough left at that point to outpoint him
Re: Bruno Arcari ~ 'The First 3-Weight Division Champion"
You realize that what you're saying Arcari almost "became the first man to accomplish" in the 1970's, was already accomplished by Henry Armstrong in the late 30's and early 40's right?
Armstrong was a Featherweight, Lightweight and Welterweight Champion before Arcari was ever a Professional Fighter.
Also every single one of Arcari's title bouts were at the Jr. Welterweight limit...from the looks of it he didn't even fight in any other weight class.

Re: Bruno Arcari ~ 'The First 3-Weight Division Champion"
I was about to say the same. He would have needed a time machine to be the first, and no amount of fictional quotes will make me believe he was close to having one of those! Into the bargain, Armstrong continued to defend his lower weight titles, and didn't benefit from intermediate weight divisions.
Re: Bruno Arcari ~ 'The First 3-Weight Division Champion"
And, having seen what was posted above, did he even win titles at two weights?
Re: Bruno Arcari ~ 'The First 3-Weight Division Champion"
No. He was the WBC Light Welterweight Champion, and held some European titles as well.SamWise72 wrote:And, having seen what was posted above, did he even win titles at two weights?
Re: Bruno Arcari ~ 'The First 3-Weight Division Champion"
I understand that you're saying he came close to fighting Napoles, but that would have been two titles. Where does the "three" come from?Il Duce wrote:Italian Promoter - Antonio Ardito had $145,000 'as a bag' for Jose Napoles to come to Italy in June or July 1974 toSamWise72 wrote:And, having seen what was posted above, did he even win titles at two weights?
face Bruno Arcari.
Not only that, the Italian Promoter was also offering to 'give' Jose Napoles a home in San Siro, Italy {free and clear} if he
would move to Italy and fight Bruno Arcari at the Municipal Stadium in San Siro.
Jose Napoles got 'bad advive' from Promoter George Parnassus and Manager Arturo 'Cuco' Conde.
Bruno desperately wanted a '2nd Championship' before he retired.
IMO > Bruno busts up the 'tissue-skinned' Jose Napoles and scores a TKO in 11.
Re: Bruno Arcari ~ "Possibly A 3-Weight Division Champion"
No wait. I get it. I get the whole thing. He's on a trip to see how outlandish he can get without being banned. He started with the completely fictional quotes, and implying that Ali ducked people. That reached it's pinnacle with the thread where he implied that Ali ducked Bunny Johnson. I think he's thinking "well, if I got away with that somehow, where can I go next? I know! I'll state that a guy who never even fought for a title at a second weight was close to being the first to win titles at three weights, even though that was achieved 40 years before".
I predict that if this one passes, the next will be something implying that Gregorio Peralta ducked a challenge from Sot Chitalada for the Russian middleweight title.

Re: Bruno Arcari ~ "Possibly A 3-Weight Division Champion"
For me, "very near" might be that he won titles at two weights, had a lead in a title fight in a 3rd, and got KOed. Like Robinson for instance, he was very close. A man who only ever contested a title in one division is not close, and especially he is not close to being the first to achieve something that was achieved 40 years previously.
I'm with you on Chitalada though. He totally should have been Russian middleweight champ.

Re: Bruno Arcari ~ "Possibly A 3-Weight Division Champion"
I love Bunny Johnson, for being the first black British heavyweight champ, for moving up from light heavy to heavy successfully, and for being a really nice bloke. He was nowhere near world class as a heavyweight, and everyone in the world knows it. (he wasn't good enough for the European light heavyweight title)

Who considers this fixed?Il Duce wrote:Sam Wise,
Bruno was also was supposed to tangle with WBC Light-Middleweight Champion - Miguel De Oliviera in late-1975,
and then Elisha Obed in early-1976.
Maybe I'll start making up some freshly fictionalized details next!
I know I do.
However......There's always room for more benign fiction within a group of mature, and competent fact checking readers.
