How much control have the BBBoC left?
So in 2012 we had a fight between 2 world rated heavies in Haye and Chisora, that was licensed by Luxemburg. This caused a storm, the board relented as money and law took hold.
Now we have Robin Deakin who's record stands at 1-50, and fighting under a German license. The board took away his licence , but he can now still fight on. So how much power do the BBBoC have left?
Are they going to end up just a perfunctory board there to hand out the belts to the champions, or a plaything of the promoters, who now know that any ban can just be over ridden with a license from elsewhere.

It depends on whether the context of the question relates to the sport internally, so to speak, or to what would happen in court or in an employment tribunal. I don't think the Board would win in an employment tribunal or court. In this very liberal world we live in, Mr Deakin has every right to carry on earning a living from boxing until he's a fxxking cabbage.
I don't think the Board have the legal power to physically stop a person from climbing into a ring and fighting. Plenty do it without the Board's permission. I think they still have the right to withhold their own sanction and approval. The problem facing the Board is how do they stay as relevant as they have been in the past, in an ever-changing world where the rug can quickly be pulled out from under their feet.
A more accurate name would be the British Boxing Board of Administration, rather than Control.

If you follow the Japanese scene they have suspended the Kameda brothers, we need power like that to be given to the BBBOFC.
Re: How much control have the BBBoC left?
I missed that. Why did they get suspended?iamasadlittleboy wrote:If you follow the Japanese scene they have suspended the Kameda brothers, we need power like that to be given to the BBBOFC.

The JBC and fans were unhappy that Daiki retained his title despite losing to Liborio Solis. The JBC said that the Kameda gym had misled fans and the commission over what a loss would result in.sgtcecil wrote:I missed that. Re: How much control have the BBBoC left?
There is one simple direction the Board can take and bear in mind they are highly respected throughout the world and have almost 100 years experience.
Become a members club, with clear membership rules. If anyone breaks the rules they are kicked out the club. If they want to get back into the club they can re-apply. If they get rejected then that's the end of the story. If some other group want to create another club then they can.
Much like a golf club. If someone is kicked out the golf club for breaking the rules then they can't go to court about it . They could go further and state in the rules that if a member takes part in the sport under another organisations rules then that is a breach and they can be kicked out.
I don't see the problem.
By becoming a club they are not depriving anyone of earning money, they are not setting themselves up as an organisation which controls professional boxing in this country , they are simply saying join our club and abide by the rules and you will be looked after professionally.

The board are only concerned with getting sued if the same thing that happened to Micheal Watson, happened now, they shamed the sport by allowing Flintoff to fight, not only fight, but on live tv, how did he pass his trial bout ? The Board are just money orientated, the fighters who fought on the so called illegal show at upton park have all been rewarded, with title shots or elliminators, it's a joke. It's easy to get round a possible ban, due to number of losses, just get a win, which managers help them to do, a little easy fight and money is rolling in again on the road.

i think the board did the right thing taking deakins licence he has lost 50 fights in a row ,that's not being a boxer that's being a punch bag and he needs saving from himself plus i think he's got something wrong with his legs as well so might be good if he quit.

How do you know -
A - If he had to (had the ruling been abolished)
B - If in fact he did this behind closed doors prior to the fight
Not everything was filmed

It's the boxing board rules, like getting medicals, not about camera's, though they don't do them now, they do an assessment instead.taffytoon wrote:How do you know -

any worse than giving Zaffraan a licence?Anzi wrote:The board are only concerned with getting sued if the same thing that happened to Micheal Watson, happened now, they shamed the sport by allowing Flintoff to fight, not only fight, but on live tv, how did he pass his trial bout ? What's wrong with giving him a license? I'd be surprised if he didn't have any previous experience of boxing and it was revoked after the fight anyway.slapbangwhallop wrote:any worse than giving Zaffraan a licence?Anzi wrote:The board are only concerned with getting sued if the same thing that happened to Micheal Watson, happened now, they shamed the sport by allowing Flintoff to fight, not only fight, but on live tv, how did he pass his trial bout ? Everyone involved in this upon park show was supposedly having there licences revoked ? Then nothing came of it, the bbbc are just an organisation, I don't think they have any power stopping fighters fight on other show licences by German or Malta commissions, all they will do is stop them fighting on there shows ....... Until its a big money fight

they do still do trail bouts, if you have no amatuer expiereience you are required to do one with a board member watching, thats what i had to do and flintoft did, i also know of quite a few others that had white collar fights and wanted to turn pro having to have one, the board do a good job imo, not perfect but a lot better than most authorities
