Serious question, where does your almost pathological dislike of Ali come from?
A better question is why do people worship such a pathetic lowlife?
Why lowlife?

Hateful, racist (spoke at kkk rally), treated opponents and people in general like shit, no good sonofabitch stabbed fraizer in the back and fueled public hatred toward him, was a pos of a father, beat up a dog. Other than that and quite a few other reasons, a swell guy.

Just reading the Tyson Autobiography at the moment...I have read many many books on Boxing and boxers and it seems to me that a fighter has never lost due to his opponent being superior to him. There was always a reason. For example Tyson, who as a fighter I love lost to Douglas - wasnt prepared was humping Japanese women all day and night ;Holyfield- Evander's heads made him dizzy and caused him to black out. Lewis - doing coke and humping excessively in the lead up.
Holmes was 'rusty' when he lost to Mike. Ali had a long lay off prior to the first Frazier fight..excuses excuses excuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

evrenb- When I first read this thread, I assumed that the fighter himself had to make the excuse. Is that the case? Or are you counting if others (managers, trainers, media, fans, etc.) have made the excuse for them?

It makes a difference in some cases.
I really meant the fighter to be honest.
Like for example when a fighter says after his last fight which was a loss ' Im in shape this time ; last time out I didn't train properly, my mind wasn't right' etc etc etc ' the dog was sick' lol

But we appreciate his fights, not his life.

I don't like what Polanski did to that little girl but I don't say because of it that "The Pianist" is not a good movie.

WOW, that is shallow.

You 'Love Him' for that.........How about you enjoyed watching him perform, and he's one of my favorite Sports Personalities.
As you like. Loved watching him fight, maybe? He was poetry in the ring early on, and later, incredibly brave. I realise that you're going to hate me for liking Ali whatever I say, and make a huge deal out of it, and really, that's fine, you carry on.

How can he be a racist towards black people *referring to your mention of him talking at a KKK rally* when he's black/mixed race himself?

You may appreciate him if you wish. I haven't said anything bad about him as a fighter, however overrated he may be. And you can support that no good rapist piece of shit as well.

Fair enough. It cant be white people he's racist against though as surely going to talk at a white supremacist group meeting when you dont like white people wouldnt make much sense. Would be better going to a black panther's meeting.

If you're at least average intelligent you can separate saying, writing, judging, supporting, worshiping somebody because of his skills (like Ali boxer and Polanski director) and the same because of his lifestyle.

BTW, rapist? Is there still something I don't know or you're just insane?

I'm trying to dumb myself to give you a response you can understand, but this is becoming very difficult. I don't understand why this is so hard for you to follow. Unfortunately, not unexpected for those who worship someone like Clay.

I wish you the best.

There are countless stories of Clay's hatred, yet people choose to ignore them. If it makes it easier to carry on their worship of him, well I still wish them all the best.

I may pray for them.

First of all, I'm not a Clay worshiper.
Secondly, you didn't respond to my post, you just wrote something which means nothing at all.

Maybe this is what makes you feel better but this is forum about boxing, not a support group. And even in such a group you shouldn't be rude, that's not how it works so you're doing it wrong

Ok, so we are just talking about the fighter's themselves. That does narrow it down then. Often it's the fighter's fans or someone else making the excuses for them.
Ali for example, himself didn't make excuses for the Holmes fight or the Norton fight.

The vast majority of excuse are just that, excuses. How some do have validity. This is boxing remember, there are horrible decisions and cases where the referee cost the fighter a fight.

And you do have take the "past his prime excuse seriously". Though overused some times it is true. For example, Holmes was way past his best when he fought Tyson. Tyson himself was when he fought McBride and Williams. There are people who will argue that the fighter took the fight and is therefore responsible. However, if nothing else, you would be giving too much credit to the fighter who beat the past his prime fighter. For example, are you really going to give Hector Camacho a lot of credit for beating Leonard and Duran?
