The only purpose built boxing arena in the world, the National Stadium in Dublin, has its 75th anniversary coming up. The venue was officially opened on 18 April 1939 for the commencement of the sixth European Championships but, five weeks prior to that, on 16 March, it actually staged its first event, an international between Ireland and Scotland. Below are the results, but I'm hoping somebody can help me fill in the forenames of the Scottish team.
Fly: Jimmy Ingle beat J Shaughnessy.
Bantam: Oliver Browne lost to P Kershaw RSC 4.
Feather: Peter Glennon beat J Adams.
Light: Paddy Gernon beat J Lallaway.
Welter: Charlie Evenden beat W Whyte RTD 3.
Middle: Mick Coffey beat I Watson.
L/heavy: Joe Boyd beat A Watson.
Heavy: John McMullan beat D McGillivary.
APPEAL TO SCOTTISH AMATEUR BOXING BUFFS
Re: APPEAL TO SCOTTISH AMATEUR BOXING BUFFS
Hi, been doing a bit of research on my Uncle and came across this post. The Scottish boxer who won his fight is Patrick Mannix Kershaw. Going by this post does this mean he was the first international fighter to win at the National stadium? Unfortunately he was cut down in his prime during the blitz on Greenock Scotland in 1941.
