Why are the seats at the calzaghe fight so Damm expensive?

Post by REAL_DEAL »

I was looking at the prices of the Calzahe- Lacy fight and noticed seats in the stand some are 150 quid and ringside tickets are 300, thats more expensive than the hatton - Tszyu fight. even tickets in the upper section of the middle tier are 75 quid? Dont you think thats a bit expensive, with no undercard announced.

I was gunna ask a question on prices for tickets but thought that this info wouldnt be out yet, if ringside are only £300 i think i'm going for that option if i decide to go.

looking at the french show on monday which features 3 world title fights (4 including womans title) and tickets are as follows:

RING VIP 200 €,
RING 120 €,
TRIBUNE 50 €,
NON NUMEROTE 20 €

Translated thats £142 ringside VIP,
£85 ringside,
£35 Platform,
£14 cheapest

and no way Paris is more expensive than Manchester

Yeah ...rip-off Britain.

Something in the news the other day pointed out it is cheaper to buy a ticket to go and see Real Madrid at the Bernabau than to see some teams in Division 2 in England…..

Boxing tickets are the least of your worries.

You name it… it’s more expensive in Britain for the same thing. If you tell a yank what we pay for petrol they think you're winding them up and refuse to believe it.

I guess that either Calzaghe or Lacy or both have made some serious demands for purses for this fight.....

I think petrol cost almost the same in most of Europe.

it does

assuming you can get 20000 in there and a normal concert ticket is £25 approx then that would leave you at break even.... thats before you book the band do the advertising etc

Thought I may as well wade in with some pure guesswork.

Gate 20,000 at say £75 average = £1.5m

TV money and sponsors (Showtime, 2am ITV) = £750k

Less venue hire, undercard and event staff = (£250K)

So probably £2m of which FW will probably want around 20% return on investment risk = £400k so £1.6m for Lacy & Calzaghe combined, probably 50/50 as both are champs. Doesn't sound right though as didn't Calzaghe get 900k for Veit?

If anyone has some realistic figures i.e for TV please stick them in 8)

just to give you a rough idea...

Goresbrook is £1500 or £4000 with TV
Wembley conference approx £4000 and £15000 with TV

That was Universum money though... who knows what TV deals they have...and whether he actually made a profit on that show

True, probably did make a loss or didn't pay Veit alot.

I think I have probably guessed wrong on the Showtime money for a Lacy fight. Don't know how many subscribe and at what price though. ITV will probably be lucky to cover production costs on a 2am start.

Would guess that there would be at least 200,000 PPV buys in the US if cost was $20 = $4m. Cost would probably be more though & there could very well be more buys. I wonder what the figures were for the PBF-Mitchell fight as HBO reportedly paid Floyd $3.5m for it.

Is it even on PPV in the States? I thought it was regular Showtime, same as Hatton-Tszyu.
