Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
Very pleased its on where matters not to me.
Froch has gone along way to repairing the damage he did to his legacy today.
Groves has it all to do and it will be tougher this time.
Great fight to give boxing some much needed credibility back to the masses.

Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
What damage did Froch do to his legacy? I think if anything the British 'boxing fans' did more damage to their credibility than Froch could ever do to his legacy. He put in a stellar performance to hang in there against a young, hungry fighter despite being dropped hard early on, but people still want to talk about damage to his legacy. Why? because the fight got stopped a little early by the ref? Not Frochs fault.... Or because he made a few silly comments after the pathetic backlash to his performance? Worry about the wife beaters and drug cheats in our sport, not a few silly comments by one of Britain's hardest working sportsmen....TJ77 wrote: Froch has gone along way to repairing the damage he did to his legacy today.

I thought Froch got the better of the verbal exchanges today.

I'm just watching it now. I thought Groves always beats him in the verbal discussions. Looking forward to it.columbo wrote:I thought Froch got the better of the verbal exchanges today.

I don't. I think Groves is very impressive, mentally.columbo wrote:I thought Froch got the better of the verbal exchanges today.

I thought the comment about Groves's "bald swede" visibly irked him and he looked embarrased.mickey1975 wrote:I don't. I think Groves is very impressive, mentally.columbo wrote:I thought Froch got the better of the verbal exchanges today.

I think it surprised him, and receding men DONT like it, but he spoke rationally on Ringside about it. Carl looked angry already!columbo wrote:I thought the comment about Groves's "bald swede" visibly irked him and he looked embarrased.mickey1975 wrote:I don't. Haha. You can tell that Froch truely despises Groves's and he is emotionally involved no doubt.mickey1975 wrote:columbo wrote:I think it surprised him, and receding men DONT like it, but he spoke rationally on Ringside about it. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
Froch always makes a tit of himself during the verbals with Groves. He has neither the intellect or the vocabulary to hold a cogent argument together. Every time he opens his gob he embarrasses himself. Shame really because he's a decent fighter.
Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
To be fair though, if you've got someone like Groves's constantly nipping at your ankles with abuse, it's quite likely that you're going to retaliate. Even if it's not the wittiest reposte.physioneil wrote:Froch always makes a tit of himself during the verbals with Groves. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
It was very interesting watching the build up to the last fight, seeing Groves take on the Degale role from their fight. Froch would be better off keeping his mouth shut and letting his career speak for itself.columbo wrote:To be fair though, if you've got someone like Groves's constantly nipping at your ankles with abuse, it's quite likely that you're going to retaliate. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
I think the problem is that Froch is quite sensitive by nature *pretty sure he had a lot of confidence issues early on in his career that McCracken had to really work on* and thus Groves's insults really get to him. You're right though. He'd be better off ignoring it.SNG wrote:It was very interesting watching the build up to the last fight, seeing Groves take on the Degale role from their fight. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
He seems to take it very personally, he allows himself, or at least did in the build up to the last fight, to be wound up by Groves. His record speaks for itself, he should have let Groves talk and talk and talk. But he didn't, and the bad breath stuff was woeful, he's so awkward when he tries to trash talk that it's embarrassing. He just comes across as bitter quite often to be honest.
Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
Groves's is undoubtedly a very good fighter but I get the feeling that he can be quite a nasty piece of work at times. When the whole Degale thing was going on, I was 100% on Groves's side but seeing what's gone on since, i'm wondering if people who have met James were right about Degale actually being a good guy at heart and really Groves's is the problem.SNG wrote:He seems to take it very personally, he allows himself, or at least did in the build up to the last fight, to be wound up by Groves. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
I think Groves was savvy enough to give Degale all the rope he needed. I haven't really seen any behaviour from Groves that I'd consider bad at all to be honest. He was trying to goad Froch, that's what he set out to do. It worked as well.columbo wrote:Groves's is undoubtedly a very good fighter but I get the feeling that he can be quite a nasty piece of work at times. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
He seems a bit snidey and as others have mentioned before, a bit of an Adam Booth clone in his general mannerisms and behaviour.SNG wrote:I think Groves was savvy enough to give Degale all the rope he needed. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
Change snidely to calculating and I'd agree, but I don't see much wrong with that to be honest. Boxers have a short career, he should be doing everything he can to maximise his position in my opinion.

Oh I agree that he should maximise his earning potential. I'm just not 100% sure he's a guy that you could really trust.SNG wrote:Change snidely to calculating and I'd agree, but I don't see much wrong with that to be honest. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
Froch strikes me as the kind of bloke that he would much rather just stick one on you than piss about with the insults. Maybe that's why he isn't a particularly great trash talker.
I think they both sound like prize plums when they start all the chat. Groves has a weird way of talking, he seems to be a bit of a 'chicken child' ( Micky Flanagan ) at times. All that's missing is an 'innit' or two.
Its amusing that Froch allows himself to get wound up so much by it all. He should have just let Groves chat away right from the off.
Also, worst ringside ever? Effing shite. Well, for the twenty minutes I had it on. Boring. Is suspect it will happen more than once in the build up, seeing as its the "biggest British fight of all time"

Degale and froch have both got personal towards him, I feel groves will have the last laugh, as for the Adam booth clone thing, there are a few similarity's but I remember seeing groves talking on setanta as an amateur and that's his style anyway !

Ringside will now become a weekly advert for a fight Sky Sports are not even showing. The month after, a review! We're fully booked up until late June now.lillywhite14 wrote:Froch strikes me as the kind of bloke that he would much rather just stick one on you than piss about with the insults. Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
I'm not sure I get the downside to this 'Adam Booth clone' thing - boxing is an entertainment business, and Groves has shown a canny ability to say whatever it takes (without actually going over the line, ala Simmonds/Camacho and the girlfriend stuff) to get a reaction and make his opponent dance to his ditty.jessi wrote:Degale and froch have both got personal towards him, I feel groves will have the last laugh, as for the Adam booth clone thing, there are a few similarity's but I remember seeing groves talking on setanta as an amateur and that's his style anyway !
It worked against Degale, who came out believing he could smash seven bells out of Groves, and Groves then produced an almost flawless backfoot display. It then worked against Froch who believed he could come out and wipe the floor with someone who he'd floored in sparring 5yrs before, and it will work this time.
The base facts, forgetting any trash talk, are that Groves has a couple of things that Froch has NEVER dealt with very well - lateral movement, great footwork, and speed.
That said, I expect a closer fight than the first 8 rounds of the first one, as Froch will know he HAS to take GG seriously, but I still stick by my original prediction for the first fight, that GG will win on points (or maybe take out Froch) - as the younger man I do believe his engine can cope with that high intensity over 12 rounds, can Froch still do that? He's a warrior no doubt and I love him for it, but that first fight probably took more out of him than George, and far more than any other fight in his career. How often do you see a stoppage victor being carried back to his stool?
Groves wins this for me - both inside AND outside of the ring.

Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
I thought Groves looked fooked at the time of the stoppage and Froch was coming on strong.
I'm not saying Groves has a stamina issue but his youth certainly didn't make much of a difference once it got last 6 rounds, and he had it all his own way up to that point and Froch had eaten plenty of leather.
Also the DeGale fight was a razor thin decision that cold have gone either way. Groves boxed well in a fairly boring fight that night. DeGale had just as much of a case for the win ( I had Groves by a point from memory )
Groves had the fight won outside the ring last time and was winning it inside until he began to unravel. I'm not sure he can do both again. Early signs look good in that respect though with Froch seemingly getting worked up already! You wold have thought he would have learnt his lesson and kept away from the trash talk. George said something yesterday that hit the nail on the head 'Carl is good at winding himself up' Bang on the money

Folk'll be shocked how much easier Froch finishes the job this time without being put on his seat hard early doors.

Re: Froch vs Groves announced Tomorrow
What makes you come to that conclusion? The first fight would have taken more out of Froch, and you would imagine Groves is getting stronger and better as he gets to his peak age range of 28-32. Froch can't get any better at 36/37 surely? I don't believe he took Groves lightly last time, I just think Groves is better than people think.Riddick Blowe wrote:Folk'll be shocked how much easier Froch finishes the job this time without being put on his seat hard early doors.
I can honestly see McCraken pulling him out around 9 this time.
I think he's in for a real one-sided pasting and retirement. At which point Groves' achievement will be belittled by the Froch fans coz Carl was 'shot' or whatever.
