50,000 went out for Hatton-Mayweather, it might have been abroad, but there's no guarantee Froch-Groves II will do that many, but if we're only counting fights that took place here, Hatton-Senchenko was bigger, sold out in 2 days simply by announcing a date and the name Ricky Hatton, without an opponent or undercard.jessi wrote:What in the uk ? What actually makes Groves v Froch the biggest of all time ?

Maybe I've worded it wrong, I'm interested in all stats but mainly talking about Britain V Britain in Britain !!!
Re: What actually makes Groves v Froch the biggest of all time ?
Wasn't around then, but surely Eubank-Benn II was bigger? It's not that much bigger than Haye-Chisora was.jessi wrote:Maybe I've worded it wrong, I'm interested in all stats but mainly talking about Britain V Britain in Britain !!!
Re: What actually makes Groves v Froch the biggest of all time ?
The pre-war record was ~90,000.
Eubank/Benn II was 42,000
Hatton/Lazcano was 55,000
Calzaghe/Kessler was 50,000
Lewis/Bruno was 26,000, so was McGuigan/Pedroza
There's been a ton of other fights in the ~30-40k region

Re: What actually makes Groves v Froch the biggest of all time ?
Because Sky Sports are covering it like no other fight before so everyone (blokes) watch sky sports news ect
its a great fight though , didnt think it would be first time round but now everyone either thinks Froch will get blitzed or Froch ups his game and takes George out .

These figures are not what makes a big fight tho. Attendances are meaningless. What matters is what expe thinks and the figures he is quoted as for how many people travelled abroad for the fight.orbtastic wrote:The pre-war record was ~90,000.

You expect to be able to sit back and say stuff like 'it won't be much bigger than Haye v Chisora' without taking any flak? I'd have a go if it was you or anyone else who said that. You just happen to be making a habbit of talking absolute gibberish on a daily basis here hence why I keep having a go.expe wrote: Have you got a effing problem with me or something? What makes you the authority on ranking how big fights are? You say Hatton v Senchenko is the UK's biggest fight of the last few years? Based off of the fact the tickets sold out in 2 days? Brilliant. Forget about quoting viewer figures/ppv sales or attendances because obviously someone could just turn around and say 'fight a/b/c had a higher figure.' It's clearly all down to what some 17 year old from Preston says.

So why not just talk about the so called gibberish, instead of trying to have a go, even at the end of this one you had to throw one in as well you pudendum. It's a fornicating forum you thick twat, the whole point of this place is for people to put their opinions across, but by doing that I'm trying to be some sort of authority? Should I just say nothing, or do we all have to agree with you? Crawl back into your fornicating hole and stay there.jameswilson wrote:You expect to be able to sit back and say stuff like 'it won't be much bigger than Haye v Chisora' without taking any flak? If you said 'I don't think it will be that much bigger than Haye v Chisora' then that would be offering an opinion. You said 'it won't be' which indicates you see yourself as some kind of authority.expe wrote:So why not just talk about the so called gibberish, instead of trying to have a go, even at the end of this one you had to throw one in as well you pudendum. Go on throw a few more insults, it's obvious you can't attempt to win any kind of argument without resorting to calling me a pudendum. Oh wait is that Mummy and Daddy calling you down for your dinner? Best run along.

I don't think James was quite justified saying that little lot about you, expe, but for what it's worth you do come across as a nauseating adolescent.

No, I don't think it will be much bigger than Haye-Chisora, that's what I said, maybe I stated it like a fact, but you know full well that it's an opinion, like most stuff put on here.
Re: What actually makes Groves v Froch the biggest of all time ?
If he wants to have a dig, he'll get some back, I don't have any problem with someone saying I'm talking bollocks, because at times I probably do, but try and come up with something constructive in return, I won't have a go at someone unless they try and wind me up first.Datsue wrote:I don't think James was quite justified saying that little lot about you, expe, but for what it's worth you do come across as a nauseating adolescent.

what was the crowd when mike tyson fought at hampden park anyone ?
Re: What actually makes Groves v Froch the biggest of all time ?
Not sure, but I bet they could fit a lot into Hampden for it with the track around the pitch, the view must have been shocking at the back of the stand though.semtexreilly wrote:what was the crowd when mike tyson fought at hampden park anyone ?
Edit: This article says around 20,000

There's a difference that I think everyone can appreciate between saying 'run along now' and 'wahhhhhhhh pudendum! thick twat! Re: What actually makes Groves v Froch the biggest of all time ?
I know this might not count for much, but yesterday I txt 12 people asking if they fancied going to the fight, I had instant response from 10 people saying YES, not only did they say yes but 3 of them wanted two tickets, so now I'm responsible for 14 tickets (including myself). I was expecting the same old 4 or 5 mates and nothing more, not only did 77% of people say yes with in 2 minutes but they didn't even mention ticket prices or location, I would say out of the 14 going only 3 are proper boxing fans. I know a couple might drop out but in general this has caught the publics imagination because....
A it's a 50/50 fight
B the first fight was great and slightly controversial
C there's genuine dislike for each other
D it's 2 British fighters fighting for a world title
I know people mention hatton selling 55,000 in hours but that's not a true reflection of a great fight, that's just proof of his likeablity ! It really could of been against anyone.
I really think this fight is going to have a bit of everything, attendance, ppv sales, people talking and most importantly a great fight, of course it's not going to get the millions of viewers we once saw in the 80's and 90's ! But those days are gone forever purely because of the choice of channels we have now, but with the promotion this is going to receive in the next 3 months there won't be many who don't know this fight is happening when it finally does, if you still have not heard of Carl Froch or George Groves by the 31st of may and you live in the uk, then you must of been living under a rock

Seems a bit harsh on Expe, I hope we all don't have to preface any comment with the line "this is just my opinion but....", surely the point of a forum is that we can basically come on and express ourselves without having to formally categorise whether or not the post is a cast iron fact, an opinion, a laugh or a wind up ?
Getting back to a post made earlier, quoting Bunce, I'm a big fan of Bunce but he is way off with his estimation of Fury / Chisora eclipsing Froch / Groves 2. Way off. The problem is, Bunce lives on Planet Box Nat ion. Planet Sky is a far bigger planet. Planet Channel 5 is even bigger. It would be massive for the channel, and yes it would be a big fight, but no way does it get near Froch / Groves 2.

I was indifferent to be honest. If a few were up for it I would have gone. I'd rather watch indoors I think.

No I'm not saying lets take it to that degree. But just saying 'this fight is good' 'this undercard is sh it' 'this fight is sh it.' And then ending the sentence. If we take it to that degree then the forum quickly becomes 'I'm right' 'no your not' 'yes I am.'JimJim2009 wrote:Seems a bit harsh on Expe, I hope we all don't have to preface any comment with the line "this is just my opinion but....", surely the point of a forum is that we can basically come on and express ourselves without having to formally categorise whether or not the post is a cast iron fact, an opinion, a laugh or a wind up ?
Is there any danger of telling us why Groves v Froch 2 will only be slightly better than Chisora v Haye? What are your factors for deciding this? I personally think it's gonna blow the Haye v Chisora attendance out the water and do well with the PPV. It's a World title fight too and I'd imagine one of the big 2 American channels will televise it as well. If all of these things come together then how can the people saying 'it's only a bit bigger than Haye v Chisora' be right. What other factors are there that Haye v Chisora did better in?
