If George wins I suspect a few will say Carl is shot completely ( can argue that he looked on the slide in the last fight ) but the beauty of that is Groves has many years ahead of him to "prove" himself.

Unless of course he settles and becomes a stay at home champion, picking off mandatories and low risk challengers etc

Not exactly unheard of for a British super middle champ!

What damage did Froch do to his legacy? I think if anything the British 'boxing fans' did more damage to their credibility than Froch could ever do to his legacy. He put in a stellar performance to hang in there against a young, hungry fighter despite being dropped hard early on, but people still want to talk about damage to his legacy. Why? because the fight got stopped a little early by the ref? Not Frochs fault.... Or because he made a few silly comments after the pathetic backlash to his performance? Worry about the wife beaters and drug cheats in our sport, not a few silly comments by one of Britain's hardest working sportsmen....
Agree 100%. Both fighters deserve a lot of credit for the first fight. Silly comments aside, Froch has done everything you could possibly ask for in his career. He won the Lonsdale outright and went on to become multiple world champion fighting all the top guys in the division (away from home 5 times) and did it all with limited ability. The man is as tough as anyone at any weight. Yet the ref stops the fight early, Froch says a few silly things, and all what's gone before is forgotten. Such a fickle sport.

Personally I think Groves should just come straight out for the ko this time, he could probably have got Froch out of there early if he'd have gone all out.

Even with his youth advantage, I don't believe Groves has the engine to keep up with Froch for 12 rounds which showed in the 1st fight, I think Groves' only chance of winning is a stoppage within the first 6 rounds, if Froch is still able to come out at round 7 then Froch goes on to win.

Admittedly no-one has stopped Froch yet, but this isn't the Froch of old, never seem him look so vulnerable as he did in the 1st fight.

I think they both sound like prize plums when they start all the chat. Groves has a weird way of talking, he seems to be a bit of a 'chicken child' ( Micky Flanagan ) at times. All that's missing is an 'innit' or two.

Its amusing that Froch allows himself to get wound up so much by it all. He should have just let Groves chat away right from the off.

Also, worst ringside ever? Effing shite. Well, for the twenty minutes I had it on. Boring. Is suspect it will happen more than once in the build up, seeing as its the "biggest British fight of all time"

Just the way Groves talks at times and his mannerisms. Very "Hammersmith" blud, innit

What makes you come to that conclusion? The first fight would have taken more out of Froch, and you would imagine Groves is getting stronger and better as he gets to his peak age range of 28-32. Froch can't get any better at 36/37 surely? I don't believe he took Groves lightly last time, I just think Groves is better than people think.

I can honestly see McCraken pulling him out around 9 this time.

I think he's in for a real one-sided pasting and retirement. At which point Groves' achievement will be belittled by the Froch fans coz Carl was 'shot' or whatever.

Of course Froch can do better - he's clearly in excellent shape - otherwise he'd never have survived the early rounds onslaught, 36 isn't old any more in sports, we're seeing athletes in various disciplines competing into their late 30's and even early 40's (and in some exceptional cases like Hopkins, well beyond that), at top level.

Froch trains like a demon, and it's been proven that training can greatly reduce the rate at which physical attributes decline.

Froch has never relied much on relfexes and speed of hand and foot, so I don't think these things are much of an issue. He;s always relied on an iron will, toughness, and great finishing instincts to win his fights not silky skills and timing.

Froch can assert himself more early on, and use his jab properly, I believe he allowed Groves too much room by waiting to pick shots, and by not throwing the jab properly, leaving gaps for Groves to exploit with his own right hand.

I don't think Froch can just come out there and hurl everything but the kitchen sink at him and expect to blow him out of there, he'll have to break him down slowly, as otherwise Froch is going to get punished again.

It could be that Groves can finish the job he started last time, perhaps Froch is on the slide just a little, it's hard to say for sure, but my instincts tell me that Froch has at least one more big performance in him and will still be too much for Groves.

:TU: I agree 100%; Froch will get bashed to pieces.

Froch didn't gift Groves anything early last time - Groves took it from him. He couldn't get going - he didn't let Groves have his way.

Love the idea that Groves is somehow going to do better this time round, by boxing..... He had the fight of his life first time out, how on earth can he do better than that without getting Froch out of there inside 3?!

Groves isn't boxing Froch for 12 rounds and anyone who watched the first fight should realise that. He had the best start possible and had an amazing first 4 or 5 rounds but he couldn't keep it up. You cant do any better than Groves did without stopping a guy, but by the end of the fight he didn't have the engine to keep Froch honest. He isn't Ward and cant control the pace of the fight, that was his undoing first time round and unless he stops Froch early, its going to be his undoing second time round.

That said, I still think its a 50/50 fight and I think there's every chance Grove will catch Froch again and put him away this time, but if Froch is still there after 6 he is going to get stronger and Groves is going to have the same pacing issues he had in the first fight. To make Froch an easy nights work you have to be able to control the pace like Ward did and I've never seen Groves do that. It wont be enough just to time Froch on the way in, unless he backs it up and tries to finish him.

Froch doesn't get stronger as the fight goes on - it's physically impossible. He holds his strength as the other man fades. If Groves has a better camp than last time then he can last better. Froch isn't a monster - he is very well conditioned and was gifted a stoppage last time out.

Let's say he gets stronger relative to his opposition then, how's that?

You can say that or you could say that he retains his strength better over the long term than his opponents - like a marathon runner as opposed to a sprinter - a very admirable quality but it doesn't make him a beast and he has his flaws - as does Groves.

What they'll both be remembering is that the last time either wad in the ring, Groves was getting punched round the ring like a rag doll. He's never got a man as hard as he hit Froch and have taken get up and fight on, and he's never been beaten up like that before. You'll see a more cautious Groves, and a more cautious Froch, then later it'll be the trenches, and Carl will win. Groves' real chance to beat Froch passed by when he didn't go for him after the knockdown, and it's not coming back.
Froch was in worse shape in the 1st and the 6th than Groves was in the 9th, his chin's cracking, he's old and slow, Groves lost the fight because when Froch started to come on stronger, as he does, he tried to trade with him and got caught, but he was winning the fight comfortably before that, if he'd have got on his bike and moved, he would have won the fight, this time he'll beat Froch, hopefully by a nice clean KO to remove any doubt, but points will do, he didn't just land a 'Sunday punch', he outboxed Froch for most of the fight and beat him up for the first 6 rounds.
I think that's a valid assessment, but I stand by my view. I don't think he would have had that success without the KD, and I also don't think that winning the first 5 clearly would have seemed such a big deal without the KD. More importantly, I think it will have got into Groves' head a lot, and not Carl's. Froch was in a worse position against Lacy and won, plus he's lost a couple and made his way back before. What happened was new ground for Groves, and in my opinion, it'll hurt him.

Honestly, I can see how your assessment could just as easily be right, but I like to stick my view out there and stand by it. I won't mind admitting I'm wrong if Groves wins, and if Froch wins, I'll be citing it as evidence of my supernatural ability to read a fight :-)

Has it occured to you, that perhaps Froch is just a better athletel - at least where Stamina is concerned.. Not everyone has the same stamina, it's not all about training, people have different capacities, we are not all born genetically equal. Froch has always had incredible toughness and late rounds stamina.

At least some of what Froch has is natural, he clearly trains incredibly hard, and he definitely lives the life between fights. Despite taking a pretty good kicking in the first 5 rounds, and having to get off his arse after being decked like a sack of spuds in the first round, he was still able to take the fight to Groves and force the referee to make that decision.

Groves own output was slowing as the fight wore on, which allowed Froch to start imposing himself, clearly Groves' assault on Froch took a lot out of him - I'm not convinced, that barring getting Froch out of there in the first 3 rounds, which I won't discount entirely, of course, there is a lot Groves can do differently, if he tries to box his way to a win, I think he's going to get swamped as the fight progresses as eventually he's going to get drawn into a brawl. I don't think Groves has the kind of skills that Taylor displayed to keep Froch at bay round after round.

Anyway, I'm going to be happy to leave all the conjecture behind and found out for real, which in this day and age, is a real treat. This is going to be one hell of an exciting ride during the build up.

Agree 100% Riddick. It's amazing how this one is polarizing opinion. The conclusions to be drawn from the first fight are pretty straightforward in my eyes and yet plenty of people who I respect as good judges have formed completely the opposite opinion. It's going to be some atmosphere on the night
