I'm assuming this is bait to see if anyone is dumb enough to pick Cooney . . . .?

Depends on the time frame we are talking here, but regardless, almost any stage of Tyson is always going to be the favorite over Gerry Cooney.

I think any version of Tyson pre-2000 steamrolls Cooney inside of two rounds. Even Tokyo Tyson beats 1982 Cooney on sheer intimidation. And I'm a Cooney fan.

Tyson wins this hands down and that goes without saying. Few to almost no one would pick Gerry unless it were a very early prospect version of Tyson before he beat anyone of note. As for when and how? I am not for the school of thought that this would be a one sided slaughter that ends in two rounds the way that some have already surmised. Gerry was a very large man with a hard punch and a sharp left hook & upper cut that could tag Tyson as he's coming in. Tyson would work the body and head until Cooney eventually drops or a sympathetic referee intervenes. But it would probably take about 6 or 7 rounds to get to that point due to the vast size difference and Cooney's power getting Mike's attention. Probably a crowd pleasing fight, unless Gerry pulls a Bonecrusher and clings for dear life. Incidentally this match was talked about sometime in 1986, but I don't know if any serious negotiations ever took place or if it was just fan gossip.
