May v Law
May v Law
first and foremost what a great fight. But, can someone explain the scoring to me. I thought the best Waylon could hope for was a draw. Had May winning 4 of the 6 rounds with Waylon taking one clearly, maybe two (second could be a draw). The judges scorecards were a shambles. Then Sharp v Zerafa - Zerafa deserved the victory but did one judge have it a shut out ? Give me a break !!! But hey boxing in Queensland has thrown up the usual scores. Hopefully Waylon will rematch Nathaniel but I hear he may already be lined up for an Australian title fight next.
Great KO by Flanagan. Time to train hard and get back to Light heavy Andy, that's where you belong.
Great night of fights. The wide scoring just had me questioning Queensland and boxing again. Would like to hear others thoughts.

Re: May v Law
Like you, I had May winning 4 out of 6
Re: May v Law
Thought May, have nicked it, great fight.
Sharp won at least 3 rounds, 7th defiantly, Zeraffa no doubt the winner.
Flanagan, wow....seen him in Townsville last month, he looked as big as he did tonight...Green, outclassed, weight or not, he would have got cleaned by any decent domestic lt Heavy with a punch. Flanagan no joke at this weight.

Terrific fight. Both boys gave it everything.
I thought May won.
Looked like a good old fashioned hometown decision to me.
Might be a bit too early in his career but there's an Australian title at May's mercy
if he can get a contract signed with Billel Dib.

It was a great night of fights. The two debuntants put on a willing show, but even this one was closer than what the judge's cards revealed at the announcement to set the tone for the night, scorecard wise.
Again, I thought May just got over the line over Law, in what was a terrific bout of stamina and aggression by both guys.
In the ladies bout, which was an impressive affair, did the judges actually see the knockdown of Sabrina, and include it in their assessments. Here I thought Arlene got over the line.
Zerafa won of course, in a ding-dong of a fight, but the result was a bit closer than the cards revealed. Michael not losing any round on the card by one judge beggars disbelief.
Thankfully Flanners took the judges out of equation, with of one of the best rights seen for sometime.
Overall a great night of boxing provided by the fighters, and we may have already see the fight and punch of the year. However a quick trip to OPSM is required for our judges to remove that maroon tint in their retinas!

I agree it was a great entertaining hard fought contest. I find it interesting how people are prepared to let the judges scoring off as just being a home town decision tho. How anyone could have scored that fight 5 rounds to 1 to LAW its beyond belief! If that's the case then a home town decision is giving a close fight to the home boy... I get that the so called benefit of the doubt in a fighters back yard.
I'm sorry but I cant cop a score like that. Two words come to my mind when I see a score like that after watching such a great fight ruined by the scores.... incompetent or corrupt. Can someone tell me which one it is?
Aren't you getting sick of seeing these type of results that seem to be occurring all too frequently these days in Australia. I know I am...

58 - 56 or 57 - 57 for mine, very close fight, but I thought May looked the aggresor. In saying that, how can you call a robbery on a fighter like Law, he doesn't deserve it, and he's my new Olarte. I hope Law rematch's May in WA, I hate the thought of people's perception of Queensland having such a tarnished reputation by some good blokes on here that know the game. It's important that match ups like that continue without the thought that they can't travel and get a fair decision, i've waited forever for Green to get in the ring with a serious fighter. And there are some really decent fighter's out of WA that just sit back and wait, and don't leave WA.
The 79- 72 & 80 - 72 against Sharp was bloody harsh, he fought a good honest fight, and I felt a 77 - 73 was more appropriate, as the knockdown in the 3rd was legit. He was a Victorian, so no hometown decision, just a really bad understanding of the fight game.
What a card

Re: May v Law
How good was that right! I was really concerned for Green for a while, and as a top bloke that he is, Flanagan showed his respect, until Green got to his feet.Beltane wrote:It was a great night of fights. With Pitt back this week, we have some mouth watering match ups. Aloua, Ammann fighting for Com title next week, Watts, Quinn, and others around the pacific region, it's time to get it on.
Re: May v Law
Great night of fights, Green will be back at his proper weight LtHeavy. And hopefully with his hands up. It was a massive right hand, Im not sure any cruiserweight would have got up from that.
Re: May v Law
padded records.......thats wat happens, flanagan fights good opposition, green picked his, its a no brainer, bloody good night of fights tho, promoter has set the standard, lets see if the rest can follow lol
Re: May v Law
Got to the pub just in time to see the decision announced for this fight, and I was so looking forward to it, I'll have to reserve any comments until I've got to view it. Great card, though, from what i saw, i was pleasantly surprised by the sheilas' fight too.
Re: May v Law
Watching the replay on fox sports now. May won this fight.
Re: May v Law
Not trying to defend anyone but the fight can look a fair bit different watching it from ringside than watching it at home in our lounge chairs. Maybe a few of us on here should take up judging if the officials are so wrong. Great night again by Angelo.
Re: May v Law
I agree with Fox. It is different ringside. When judging your view is affected by the Ref and the boxers themselves.
I hear other officials say" If your not ringside you cant really tell" Well I think that is bullshit.
You get a better view on TV than you do ringside. A lot of the time Judges will use that as a cop out when the scoring is questioned. You might get a better perception of power in shots ringside, but you certainly don't get a better view.

Fox that's bullshit. That is a cop out when judges stuff up constantly.
Re: May v Law
I don't disagree with fox, As ringside you do see a different view, there are a lot of times your view is blocked.
Re: May v Law
That's your view and your entitled to it. I know when I'm sitting at home, I'm not concentrating scoring the fight like I would be scoring it ringside for real. Doesn't mean shit how you score it at home as noones career is on the line.amwsnw wrote:Fox that's bullshit. That is a cop out when judges stuff up constantly.

Amwsnw You may disagree with Fox but believe me he doesn't talk bullshit, unlike some on the foram. ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)
Re: May v Law
Ok the bullshit statement may have been a tad harsh, however just because guys sitting at home get the call right and the paid judges at ringside get it wrong doesn't mean everyone should become judges. This was in Queensland so I dare so only a select few would get the gig up there anyway. The TV gives a great insight and view into what is happening and if decisions such as these keep going maybe the three judges should watch television monitors instead of the fighters !!fox wrote:Not trying to defend anyone but the fight can look a fair bit different watching it from ringside than watching it at home in our lounge chairs. Re: May v Law
Yeah it is a boxing forum and we aren't all going to agree. Just cause we have our opinion doesn't mean we are right and the judges wrong. Some judges are better than others as we've seen. I've been around a little bit and I don't think Qld is any different to anywhere else. Lets just hope we get it right.
