I think the consensus of people the world over, regarding Hughie, is he shouldn't be pushed too soon into tougher fights---- yet he's far better than the people he's facing, so much so that I don't think no one would really boo if he was penciled in to fight for a British title in the near future. As many have said in this thread, Abell may of been the man suited for him to be fighting at this stage, such is his skill set. All in all, the kid is on track and point, and I only hope good things for him.

What I am meaning smart ass, is heavyweight fans around the world, when they dicuss Hughie Fury all draw the same conclusion. It is the consensus of people the world over.

They naturally peak later because they are big? I don't know what to make of this. I don't have a clue what you base it on. I'd be interested to hear.

I'll be honest, Tuan_Jim, I thought it was common knowledge that Heavyweights are at their peak later than lighter weight fighters.

Obviously there are exceptions but if you look throughout history larger fighters have generally won world titles at a later age than lighter weights.

And the advances in nutritional knowledge, exercise & medicine have helped. Add to that fighters no longer engage in 15 round fights, wear bigger gloves (and better sparring equipment) & have less than half the bouts of yesteryear & you'll see careers being extended.

Look at how many rounds the top heavies have completed nowadays as to 30, 50 or 80 years ago.

And here's the biggest thing (which is in line with what you're saying), the talent pool isn't as big right now because the big American athletes are moving into other sports. You can earn millions being a minor part of an NFL or Basketball team rather than risking everything as a boxer.

As for Hughie, the rest did him the world of good. His hands were playing up last Autumn & he needed a short break. He has so much more talent than his cousin but does he have the heart? We'll find out with time. A fight every other month in 2014 would be about right, in my humble opinion.

I like the fact he is getting rounds under his belt, having a string of KO1 wins looks good but doesn't really teach a fighter much. He seems to have a decent jab too. He's a big lad for 19 and his strength will come in time, still only a teenager. Whether he has the actual boxing ability to be world class is another thing though and we haven't seen his chin tested yet. One to keep an eye on.

You can look at other sports to show the same thing as well, in football, goalkeepers are usually the biggest players on the pitch, but they usually peak later than other players.
