Smith TKO 6
Re: Gerry Cooney vs. James "Bonecrusher" Smith
Prime-vs-prime, I think that Smith's ability to take a punch could help him weather the early rounds, and stop Gerry late in the ninth round. But Cooney could also take a close decision. It's really an either way battle.

Re: Gerry Cooney vs. James "Bonecrusher" Smith
Bonecrusher had more than enough power to lay out Cooney on queer street. But he also wasn't the best of finishers either. Between 1985-1986, the period where James was basically prime, he had Jose Ribalta, David Bey, Jesse Ferguson and Marvis Frazier in big trouble, but ultimately couldn't put them away. He ended up losing one of those fights and barely got by on close decisions with some of the others. None of those men could be classified as being much higher than fringe level, and while some of them might have been a bit more durable than Gerry Cooney, some of them weren't. Certainly none of them had the kind of size and power to combat Smith's the way that Cooney did. James had a good chin, decent size and good power. He also didn't quit when the going got rough as proven in the Frank Bruno fight when he came from behind after being down on the cards and taking a lot of big shots from Frank. But he was slow, lacking in defense and most of the time wasn't very busy.. I suppose it could go either way, with either Cooney stopping him late, or Smith coming back from being down as he did in the Frank Bruno fight. A scheduled 10 rounder would be ideal to both men, as opposed to a 12 or 15, given their stamina issues.

If they bother you, then don't respond to them, or just start topic threads on what you'd prefer to discuss.. Easy enough I should think.

You can not imagine how difficult this sort of discipline is for many. It is a great challenge for Carlos the Dangerous, and many others.drunkenpiper36 wrote:Carlos Danger wrote:Yes, I think there ard too many Gerry Cooney threads.Cutman Scabbers wrote:any thoughts?

Only a select few can muster the power and determination to ignore that which they are not interested in.
Cut Carly some slack....let's just assume he's doing his level best.

It is rather mind boggling...I've never had a problem ignoring the threads/posts that don't interest me. Life is short. You can not imagine how difficult this sort of discipline is for many. It is a great challenge for Carlos the Dangerous, and many others.

That is something we totally agree on. Thread complaining is laughable.
Something we probably disagree on, Smith by KO in 7 or 8. Though I don't think a Cooney decision win is impossible. Bonecrusher could be very lackadaisical.
