I don't think Campbell will ever be ready, good technically, but he has no power and can you see him beating Burns, Crolla, Ormond, Mathews, Coyle, Rees, Buckland, Gethin, Flanagan, Mitchell, Murray, Harrison and Walsh any time in the near future?columbo wrote:Halling does half chat some poo. Re: Hull bill rbr
It gives him confidence in his own fitness in a proper boxing match tho. To fight someone who's gonna come with ambition in your first 8 fights is unusual and quoting Holyfield or Rigondeaux or one of the other 10 or so guys in history who have won respected titles in their first 8 fights doesn't change that. It's extremely unusual for a boxer to be thrown into a title fight or the like without having gone 8 rounds.columbo wrote:It extends him but being extended and not having to deal with someone actually trying to hit you back doesnt teach you much IMO.jameswilson wrote:I disagree because I think this fight is extending him. If he'd gone in and knocked over some obscure Latvian I'd agree, but while he is obviously outlanding the guy he isn't exactly staggering him. It'll probably give him a kick up the jacksy to work on his power but also it's extended him 8 rounds (assuming it goes the distance.) I expect the standard to step up very slightly to guys who will actually come with a bit of ambition rather than the spoilers and coverers.columbo wrote:This kind of match making is actually detrimental IMO. Guys like Campbell actually end up with a false sense of confidence based on beating up human punchbags.

I would be surprised. He has no power and the tappy tappy style of amateur boxing suits him. Pro Boxing looks a step too much.mickey1975 wrote:Yes, me. Looks like Eddie is planning on matching him with cans for the foreseable future.

Tough fight for Coyle here.
Re: Hull bill rbr
I think he could if he was pushed; Mickey Hunter is a good poster on here and was a fierce fighter and he said he sparred with Luke years ago and he was a handful; an Olympic gold medalist can do it all really, he could box just about anyone around and give a good account - they try and market a perfect fighter though and in boxing people do get whacked back.expe wrote:I don't think Campbell will ever be ready, good technically, but he has no power and can you see him beating Burns, Crolla, Ormond, Mathews, Coyle, Rees, Buckland, Gethin, Flanagan, Mitchell, Murray, Harrison and Walsh any time in the near future?columbo wrote:Halling does half chat some poo. There's a difference between thrown in with world class opposition like Rigondeaux and co have and people expecting Campbell to be put in with people better than roadsweepers.jameswilson wrote:It gives him confidence in his own fitness in a proper boxing match tho. Whilst rare 2 of the Olympians who won gold medals alongside Campbell fought them (testing opponents) on debut.jameswilson wrote:

Of the other Olympic champions from 2012, Shiming fought some one who came to fight today, Usyk has fought someone who came to fight and I'd be shocked if Mekhontsev doesn't next time...
It might be unusual but it happens and it should happen if you're an Olympic champion

Degale himself fought for the british title in his 11th fight aswell so it's not that rare.Boxing Prospect wrote:Whilst rare 2 of the Olympians who won gold medals alongside Campbell fought them on debut.jameswilson wrote:

That bird in the front row is truely fit. I think it might be coldwell's missus.

Who did DeGale fight in his 5th fight? Campbell wasn't fighting his 11th fight this evening.columbo wrote:Degale himself fought for the british title in his 11th fight aswell so it's not that rare.Boxing Prospect wrote:Whilst rare 2 of the Olympians who won gold medals alongside Campbell fought them on debut.jameswilson wrote:

If it's not so unusual give me 10 Brits in the last 30 years or so who have fought a championship distance fight in their first 8 fights in the way Holyfield and Rigo did.

Coyle will be the first for Luke off that list.

How many brits in the last 30 years have had Campbell's amateur credentials?jameswilson wrote:Who did DeGale fight in his 5th fight? Re: Hull bill rbr
It is very unusual and is very notable; Luke is a great boxer and will adapt in time - some of the others you mentioned are all time greats, Campbell would do really well to get mentioned int he same breath as a pro, (no knock on the lad).
