Yeah but im talking about Campbell fighting better opposition that journeyman vs Rigo and co fighting world class opposition. It's not quite the same thing.palooka wrote:It is very unusual and is very notable; Luke is a great boxer and will adapt in time - some of the others you mentioned are all time greats, Campbell would do really well to get mentioned int he same breath as a pro, (no knock on the lad).

Re: Hull bill rbr
It's not that unusual to see TOP fighters fighting 10 rounders in their first 8, I could reel off...10-20 ACTIVE fighters without Olympics medals who are fighting in title fights by then. Not all are ATG's, for example our very own Paul Weir. It's rare in the west but we over-protect out prospects way too much.palooka wrote:It is very unusual and is very notable; Luke is a great boxer and will adapt in time - some of the others you mentioned are all time greats, Campbell would do really well to get mentioned int he same breath as a pro, (no knock on the lad).

Those amateur credentials don't mean your ready and hardened to go 12 rounds against people who have been professionals for 5 years+columbo wrote: How many brits in the last 30 years have had Campbell's amateur credentials?
If you want to use that argument lets go and look at Ali, Lewis, Tyson etc etc and look at who they fought in their 5th fight. Even James Degale and Frankie Gavin fought cans in their first 5 fights. There's nothing to suggest Campbell can't step up to British title by say his 10th fight. Which is realistic. Sitting and tutting at a guy in his first 5 or 6 fights, even if he is an Olympic champ, is ridiculous in my opinion.

Not with ease. Kevin "I've fell out of love with the business and now I love it again" Mitchell is a delicate chappy. I don't think he has the mentality for it anymorecolumbo wrote:Mitchell should be matched with Crolla as it is.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Agreed.rossij8 wrote:Mitchell would have Coyle for breakfast

Well if he does get moved up then fair enough. However Eddie's idea seems to be having him fight every month or two against people who havent got a hope in hell.jameswilson wrote:Those amateur credentials don't mean your ready and hardened to go 12 rounds against people who have been professionals for 5 years+columbo wrote: How many brits in the last 30 years have had Campbell's amateur credentials?

Re: Hull bill rbr
The likes of Coyle and Crolla shouldnt be figthing in international fights/ eliminators. They're clearly domestic level fighters.
Re: Hull bill rbr
You can bet if that was Brizuela the ref would of called the fight off.

Just because he has done that so far (their first 5 or 6 fights) doesn't mean that's going to be the case past their first 10 fights tho.columbo wrote:Well if he does get moved up then fair enough. If Campbell fights for an English title or the equivalent in say his 8th,9th or 10th fight you'll say fair play?

I'd be interested to know how much notice Brizuela had for this fight.

You hit the nail on the head further up when you said promoters protect their investment. They all do it.
Re: Hull bill rbr
It wasnt purely aimed at Eddie. As a boxing fan though I get sick of seeing complete mismatches. I'm not expecting them to be put in with even the best domestic level operators straight away but they can do better some of the guys that you see guys matched with now.jameswilson wrote:Fair enough mate.columbo wrote: I said if he did yeah

In other countries boxer have been raced to world titles often within 20 fights. Ever thought "maybe the western way isn't the best?"SNG wrote:
