Bert Cooper V Frank Bruno

Cooper can punch, but would he have caused any problems for Frank?

Depends which Cooper shows up...I think more often than not Bruno would've come out ahead in this match.

Smokin' Bert could win here. I'd fancy Big Frank but Bert, on form, could very conceivably win and win by stoppage.

Bert is one of the few heavies to have worse 2nd half form than Frank. After 4 rounds Frank can win as he pleases. The guy folded in 2 against Foreman. No real heart!

If this were the Cooper from 1990-1992 who gave Mercer, Holyfield and Moorer fits, then its a good brawl for about five rounds with Bruno winning by stoppage after taking some big shots.. If this were the crap version of Cooper, then Frank wins in two rounds without much drama.

Cooper did not fight well against the taller guys with good jabs---foreman, Carl Williams and Riddick Bowe and seemed to lose heart... I feel the same thing happens against Bruno... and he gives up around the 4th or fifth

Of course Big Frank, God love him, was as protected as any high profile fighter has ever been between title fights. His huge popularity in the UK let him get away with this to some degree. Bert Cooper would have been far too much high risk/low reward to have been considered. Probably having too many soft touches stopped him getting him getting over the line against Smith and Witherspoon. In retrospect it would have been great to see Frank in more 'proper' fights and less knock-over jobs.
