Well done to Mick Hennessy and Channel 5

Post by chad »

With Tyson Fury moving to B0xnati0n on a 3 fight deal, and Chris Eubank Jr. leaving the Hennessy stable many of us thought the future looked a little bleak for Mick. Questions have also been raised about Channel 5's dedication to him and the sport.

I must admit the fact that Channel 5 are showing 3 live Hennessy shows in March has come as an unexpected, but pleasant surprise. It's great news for boxing fans and a job well done by all parties involved.

1st March - James Degale Vs. Gevorg Khatchikian

15th March - Dean Francis Vs. Bob Ajisafe

22nd March - Kid Galahad Vs. Sergio Prado

Not massive fights granted however Saturday night boxing on terrestrial TV can't be a bad thing :yay:

Yeah great news for UK boxing fans, hopefully with the shows being so close together for a change,it can gather a bit momentum and viewing figures pick up along with more shows :TU: :TU:

I never knew Eubank Jr left, i just thought it was the same deal Fury had going

If Mick can secure more dates, maybe he can start signing fighters for a change, instead of jumping ship

I'm sure I read on here in one of the threads he'd left weeks ago. I could be mistaken.

He farms them out to other promoters shows, to keep them active and happy, until he gets his own Tv dates.

Eubank Jnr left Hennessey last year.

I guess Channel 5 has run out of Steven Seagal movies for a while !

Well done to Mick, this is great news.

The fact that the shows are being broadcast by 5 is good but the matchups are dog shit IMO

I don't see why you need to be so negative colombo. Seem to remember your "Is Mick Hennessy finished?" thread and others. Wonder what your agenda is against him. At least he's putting the sport on Saturday night terrestrial tele, which is great exposure for the boxers involved imo, and most boxing fans I reckon.

Tbf it's only great exposure if the fans want to come back a second time etc. If the mismatches put them off then it's bad exposure.

Channel 5 are also showing the main card of UFC Fight Night London live at 9 pm on Saturday March 8, which is a big step forward for the UFC in the UK. So, perhaps this is the beginning of a renewed commitment by Channel 5 to combat sports.
