fighters you wish you had seen live
i was thinking of boxers that had come over here and which ones i would of liked to of seen live and 2 jumped out to me .
johnny tapia fought at the york hall about 10 years ago and i was supposed to go but i didn't make it because of work and tommy hearns was on a naz hamed bill about 15 years ago .hearns wasn't quite the hitman then a bit past his best but i would of loved to of seen him in the flesh.

Hearns showed brief glimpses of the old hitman but it was a poor showing/fight, you didn't miss much.
I never saw Lenny Lewis live, for some reason.
A mate that I'd been to the boxing with offered me a ticket to Benn/McClellan but I couldn't be arsed 'cos I knew what a faff docklands was.

I was trying to think of who I'd missed and couldn't think really. I'd have liked to have seen Morales live, I saw MAB on the Hamed UC in Atlantic City.
I guess if I could pick a fighter in my lifetime, McCallum, he boxed on the UC of Benn/McClellan. I was always a big bodysnatcher fan.
I don't think I ever saw Wharton live, either. Same with Ross Hale, but my car was an unreliable piece of crap back then.

I have seen who I wanted to really. I wanted to see Hearns fight and did in Sheffield, granted he wasnt the Hearns of old.
If anything would have like to have seen Herol Graham and Nigel Benn.

I watched it in a pub in York, was kinda sad seeing the heavily pro Wharton crowd slowly have its bubble deflated.
Hearns fought at the MEN. Last fight on the bill if I remember correctly, pretty sparse crowd by that time. Still got my press pass, found it last week.

I saw Hearns on the Hamed v Ingle undercard at Sheffield. Also back to the Wharton fight, its funny how you see fights differently live. I had Wharton the winner.orbtastic wrote:I watched it in a pub in York, was kinda sad seeing the heavily pro Wharton crowd slowly have its bubble deflated.

What the hell were you smoking? I think I gave Wharton a couple of rounds at best, he never stopped trying (particularly in the last third) but was outclassed and had that horrible eye injury. It wasn't remotely competitive, unlike the Benn fight.

Some of the Amercian boxers I would like to have seen are unrealistic because of the logistics of getting there, getting tickets & hoping it doesnt fall through & losing a shit load of money.
Over here definitely Tapia & probably Benn.

I've seen Benn and Graham. Herol getting hammered by Frank Grant and Benn beating Henry.mimmy123 wrote:I have seen who I wanted to really. I wanted to see Hearns fight and did in Sheffield, granted he wasnt the Hearns of old.

I guess Ali is an obvious one but also Frazier, Arguello. I guess I just wish I'd been around and able to go to fights back then.

Re: fighters you wish you had seen live
Actually there is one boxer that I thought would only fight once in the UK so I went to see the fight and that was George Foreman in London 1990.
Pretty crappy fight and crappy undercard too, atmosphere wasnt that great but loads of stars there.

Re: fighters you wish you had seen live
Interesting thread. I hadn't thought if how lucky I was until I thought about it. I saw the following live:
Lennox Lewis
Nigel Benn
Naseem Hamed
Chris Eubank
Joe Calzaghe
Ricky Hatton
Johnny Tapia
Steve Collins
Vitali Klitschko
Paul Ingle
Herol Graham
None of them were in the big, big fights but still great to see them.
Fighters from my era I wish I'd seen:
Mike Tyson (obviously)
George Foreman
Roberto Duran
Lennox Lewis
Nigel Benn
Naseem Hamed
Chris Eubank
Joe Calzaghe
Ricky Hatton
Johnny Tapia
Steve Collins
Vitali Klitschko
Paul Ingle
Herol Graham

I saw Naz blast out Billy Hardy. To be honest it was both an anti climax and also I felt for Billy, a proud warrior who unluckily got caught early and somewhat humiliatedmimmy123 wrote:Naz v Ingle was a great night.
