Luke Campbell

Post by Bandit »

Looks the real deal!

Moises is a very tough, awkward customer... But Campbell looks to have the lot... Power, hand speed, range, punch selection, quick feet, balance an most impressive was his patience a lot would have got frustrated with Moises.

Very impressive.

Anyone can look good against someone that is purely in survival mode.

I was less than impressed with him personally. He was fighting a guy who was happy to just be there and it showed.

I don't think Campbell will reach the top in the professional game. Campbell lacks power, if he were going to make the top in the professional ranks he should be blowing away all the opponents he has so far faced. If he lacks a concussive punch against low level opponents he's not going to gain the respect of the very best.

No I agree that is a little unfair. However gauging someone on the level of competition that Campbell is facing currently is pointless.

No-one said that.

Only time will tell who is right and who is wrong on this particular subject, at this stage no-one is right and no-one is wrong it all comes down to opinion.

Mine is that Campbell was more suited to the amateur game than the professional game. I would be bit more forgiving had Campbell not had the amateur career that he did. He is 26 and Olympic Champion he's not a novice. So far Campbell has won all of his professional fights but for me he has barely impressed at all in his last three even though two of them were via stoppage. The stoppages were worn down stoppages. I think the better fighters will walk through Campbell because he doesn't have the power to deter and as soon as Campbell gets dragged into a scrap by someone of a decent standard I think he'll come undone.

He hits people over and over, clean, and doesn't hurt them. What domestic fighter do you seem him beating?

Something I tend to see here is people are far too defensive of guys getting any criticism.

In some cases I think that's because some have a direct link with particular fighters.

Quite likely but unless half the forum have a link to some fighters I think some are just over defensive. Almost as if suggesting a British fighter with a fault is unfathomable.

No i disagree its harder to look good if someone is very negative and very defence minded, good 8 rounds for the cool hand as he moves forward

It's the right sort of opponent for Campbell at this stage & it's not his fault he's far more superior. He really has been a suprise package for me as a pro!!!

I think his power is fine and will only get better. What I'm more concerned about is how he would deal with a quick inside fighter looking to rough him up.
Far too early to tell as he is fighting guys way below his level who are not opening up.

I'm sure many have tried that with him in his am career. Unless they are very, very good, they will be walking onto shots.

3 rounds isn't long enough to grind someone down, 12 is and they'll walk onto them and right through them to land their own.

Well aslong as Luke can that's all that matters. It could really hinder his potential otherwise.

Ok. Here is my view for what it is worth.
1. I will not criticise Campbell he is fighting what is put in front of him and to some degree is holding them up to get the rounds in.
2. His Manager/ promoter whilst playing the long game and doing what a lot of them do by feeding him fodder ( no disrespect meant to the guys he has fought but not in his league). should be providing him with better quality after all he was the Olympic champion. try matching him with fighters who are ranked above him and give the fans who pay to see the fights a better return on their investment, a good example would be the way Eubank junior is being managed , fighting increasingly better opponents that challenge his skills and prowess in the ring.
3. I don't think Campbell will be a world champion but would love to be proven wrong and look forward to watching him against some quality fighters

I think he will be stepped up quickly this year. Quicker than Joshua anyway. He'd beat Gethin/Derry right now for me but needs to get some rounds in first

Joshua has fought better opposition so far and I believe he will continue to be matched against better opposition in the future as well.
