Santos looks in for a tough one this weekend with unbeaten Sergej Dzindziruk. The Ukranian seems to be a puncher, and Santos doesn't have the best chin in the world - upset maybe?

ZDF are giving the boxing babes top billing though, featuring local hero Regina Halmich.

Zdf will show 2 * 1 hour. First at 22.00 (CET) they will show Halmich vs Reid live and then at midnight they will show highlights of the other fights on the card (A IBF 168 eliminator, the WBO 154 fight, and 2 other female title fights)

Just checking his record...
Looks like he may have been with Maloney/panix early in his career...
Had several fights over here...

Yet another foreign fighter who got tossed aside and went on to develop into a great fighter... Valuev, Karmazin etc etc

Yes I noticed that knockout. Wonder why he left - pay not good enough you'd guess.
Anyway, looks like the shrewd German outfit have another good fighter n their hands.

Good fight, I like Santos to come out on top... I haven't thought Dzineruk is all that. Think Santos will out box him for a points win, but who knows in Germany.

Always thought the likes of Moore, Alexander etc should have consider Dzineruk - but perhaps now they will look at a vacant title opportunity.

They probably offered him a 5 year deal with poor money....

Gotta love Germany, people turn up to support good boxers irrespective of where they come from, not because they support a certain football team or own a pub or whatever....

Dzindziruk dethrones Santos! - Fightnews

Sergej Dzindziruk dethroned reigning WBO jr. middleweight champion Daniel Santos on Saturday evening at Bördelandhalle of Magdeburg, Germany with a unanimous decision. In a highly exciting and competitive contest fought between two southpaws on a very high pace Dzindziruk knocked down Santos in round eight with a right hook to the chin and won by scores of 115:112 on all three scorecards. Dzindziruk improved to 31-0 with 21 knockouts. Santos dropped to 29-3-1 with 20 knockouts. Dzindziruk joined WBA bantamweight champ Wladimir Sidorenko and WBO light heavyweight title holder Zsolt Erdei as the third current world champion of the Universum Box-Promotion stable.

Bit of an upset for me, thank goodness I don't think it was in the prediction league.

I've seen Dzindziruk a few times and I always thought "European level at best". Well done to him though for proving me wrong, I did consider Santos the #1 in the devision.

Hope this isn't the end of Santos, maybe another move up.

Vitali Tajbert vs Robert Zsamberi ("all" of it)

On the non televised par tof the card did Robert Stieglitz win a IBF 168 eliminator vs Alejandro Berrio.

Methinks the only reason they chose Santos was becasue he sat out for more than a year.

From what I saw of him, Sergej Dzindziruk looks the real McCoy. Ice cool and an excellent well schooled pro. Showed Santos absolutely no respect as the champion, ramming a fast, hard jab into his face from the off.
Every time Santos landed a good shot, Sergej came back with 3 or 4 accurate punches as payback. Hands high with a very sound defence.

Turned his right jab into a hook to surprise Santos with a KD in the 8th - the champ was hurt, but the bell came to his rescue.

Took a huge left hand from Santos late on, but his chin looks excellent too: his head swiveled but he wasn't troubled at all, and he was straight back at Santos.

I'll stick my neck out and say this guy looks in for a long reign as champ.

In Boxing News Jamie Moore said he had seen him and fancied the job, sounds like Moore won't be able to beat Dzindziruk.

Sounds a bit like Sturm from that description. Upright, but well-schooled and good with the jab. Good to see some of these up and coming European fighters getting shots and doing well at world level.
