Chris Eubank vs Tommy Hearns

Post by deighan »

This would be a good fight, probably at either middle or super middle (even light heavy at their later days)

Eubank by death, literally. He'd have no choice but to use his secret weapon against the mighty Hitman.

Seriously? Eubank was all heart, but Tommy faced much better fighters, and the only way to beat him was to knock him out. Sugar Ray Leonard couldn't outpoint him, and he outpointed Hagler.

pre Watson eubank might have drawn the hitman into a war, which is his only chance, post Watson,he was never the same fighter, hearns would have outpointed him

Watson outpointed him. The first fight was a robbery, the second would have been a win for Watson if not for the head injury. I'm a huge Michael Watson fan, but he was no Tommy Hearns. Hearns outpointed Virgil Hill; how would Eubank have done against him?

i dont think ist fair to criticize eubanks opponent! admittedly hearns fought the better fighters but that is a 1 off standard of fighters throughout boxing history.
i reckon eubank could have kept a good pressure on throughout and dazzled hearns with angles. but dont get me wrong it would be a close fight by no means an easy win

Sadly the 45 degree punch of death would end up being used.

I don't want to talk about it.

Eubank didn't fight the best of his era, even. No Toney, No McCallum, No Jones, no McClellan, and he lost to Watson. No doubt be would have shown Tommy some things he hadn't seen, but I cannot see any sane reason to believe he would win. What he wouldn't do is give up.

Eubank beat Watson. It was Nigel Benn who Watson beat

Yes, I'm saying the first fight was a robbery, and even Eubank knows it. Whatever the score sheets say, Watson was the better man in the ring. And even if you call it a very tight win for Eubank, it doesn't bode well for his chances with Tommy.
