Saoul Mamby - contact details??

Long shot chaps, but does anyone have contact details in New York for Saoul Mamby former world light welter champion. In Sept 1994 he came over to help Henry Wharton prepare for his fight with Eubank.

I don't suspect anybody will have, but you've got to try!!!

I'm going out on a limb here but considering he had another 40+ fights including ten 'world' title fights over the next 30+ years, his injuries v Duran might not be as bad as you're making out.

Not to mention that he won a ten round bout 4 weeks after the Duran bout (even with his 'caved in ribs').

I was being facetious because Mamby symbolised everything that was bad about the WBC light-welterweight title in the 1980s (as Cervantes and Pryor strutted their WBA stuff); Saoul, a safety first boxer with absolutely no charisma, was steered to a shot after linking up with Don King and proceeded to bore the pants off everyone for a few years before losing the title to Leroy Haley, who was absolutely awful, who in turn lost it to a shot Bruce Curry, who was later declared insane, who lost it to Billy Costello, who lost it to Lonnie Smith, who lost it to Rene Arrendondo, who lost it to a Jap called Hamada, who lost it back to Arrendondo, and so and and so forth.
Finally, Roger Mayweather and Chavez moved up.

Can't argue - but Mamby was a top level boxer for years and many at the top level struggled to lay a glove on him as evidenced by the lack of facial damage.

I was bloody frustrated with Mamby because I felt that our own Clinton McKenzie would have done him, but Clint blew his European title with a low blow.

That is a very good book and it puts Mamby and Billy Costello in a very good light and has an exceptional section where Hauser debunks the everyday mans idea of being able to box at a high level. As Orb says, well worth a couple of quid.

Totally agree, Black Lights is the best boxing book I've ever read.
