Been speaking to a few people about this and they have Crawford favourite for this.... Really hope Ricky does the business - I've never met him, but he seems like a good kid, humble and he works hard.

Similar routine from Crawford at today's press conference, few words, mostly yes or no, in Ed Robinson's words, Terence moody, Ricky all smiles.

I'm still undecided.

It's Crawfords first step up in class. Burns will never be elite but he's had some good performances at lightweight. From what I've heard it'll have to be a career best if he's to win. But that goes for Crawford too and who's he really beaten?

Billy Nelson said it right, Crawford may well be the best fighter Ricky Burns has faced, but Ricky Burns is by far and away the best fighter Terence Crawford has boxed, more so than the other way round. Crawford's best win is Breidis Prescott, who knocked Amir Khan out but has done very little else and while Crawford won emphatically, so did Kevin Mitchell. Crawford has all the questions to answer and something doesn't seem right to me, bizarre press conferences, arriving on Monday, not happy with the weather or having to travel, just seems very moody, which can be a sign that he's struggling with the weight, whatever it is he doesn't seem 100% happy, especially when you look at Ricky who's the same as normal. The more I think about it, the more I think Ricky's going to do him, how many world level Americans have travelled over here and performed? The last one I remember was Bradley against Witter, 6 years ago and that was a close one.

Quite surprised at the head to head mate. I thought Ricky was clearly the taller man prior to this head to head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaLn8Qj ... 45eHFGAduw

I thought Ricky was taller, although you can't see the entire body, but Ricky fights to his full height and stands tall, whereas Crawford fights in a crouched stance and I have no doubt that Ricky will be the bigger man when the two enter the ring, he's a huge lightweight. Another very dull interview from Crawford here, seems that all he's seen of Burns is the Beltran fight, if that's what he's judging off, he's in for a shock on Saturday night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=659j5-z ... 4-overview

I've previously moaned about Ricky and I've posted before that I think Crawford will take the title but the events of two weeks ago were shocking and you'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel for Ricky - the out of the ring stuff going on whilst he prepares for this fight. He can well do without that. I will be rooting for him to win as he's taking on a top class opponent and life has thrown some right xxxx his way lately.

My heart says Burns, my head says Crawford however upon taking a few things into consideration my heads beginning to say Burns too. Crawford appears to be technically better than Burns but has never boxed outside the States and has never had a 12 round fight. He's fought at a lower level than Ricky and only has 81 rounds under his belt. The crowd will be rabid in favor of Burns and will create the type of environment Crawford has never experienced. Who knows, maybe Crawford will be Rickys Jeff Lacy?

All I know for sure is I'm looking forward to Saturday and hoping this isn't the one sided affair our American cousins are predicting.

How does Crawford normally act at press conferences? How many world level Americans have fought in the UK recently?
Ezzard wrote:I like the Watt-Davis comparison. But there's also something of McGuigan-Taylor about this too. People forget now what a good fighter Taylor was. He was in the KO magazine p4p top 12 in the months before the fight.

Ricky may find himself behind in the first 4 rounds but he must keep the pressure on and let his hands fly. Going to be hard. But Ricky at his best will win this.
So if Crawford wins you'll just conclude that Ricky wasn't at his best? In what circumstance would you entertain the idea that Crawford is better than Ricky was at his peak?

Bizarre statements about comparisons to other fights years and years ago, and 'Americans in the UK', as if anything at all can be extrapolated from that.

Also, 'looks taller'...

A couple of people seem to be talking about 'Ricky at his best coming through this' without bothering to contemplate what Crawford at his best is capable of.

I know Crawford is more untested and I am a big fan of dissecting records, but sometimes you've just got to look at the performances and think about the style matchup that's likely to unfold.

There's a reason Crawford is strong favourite for this, although I really really wish the bookies saw it as a pickem fight like so many on here do.

Crawford TKO9 after dominating the whole fight.

Na I was just surprised by it as Ricky is a very tall lightweight and Crawford looked significantly shorter than Prescott when they fought ya know.

on paper , crawford has done very little apart from clearly outpointing prescot. kev mitchell did the same a few years ago, against a less jaded prescot. even mccloskey holds a points win over prescot. i think the key to this fight will be burns fitness and stamina...if he forces crawford to fight at an uncomfortably high pace, he can drag him into deep water as the fight progresses. anyone who can do ten rounds with a broken jaw against an opponent of beltrans quality should not be dismissed so lightly.

every time burns fights these boards are full of posters deriding burns quality and predicting defeat, yet apart from a bit of bent scoring in the last one, burns has continued to do the business. to me , there are more question marks hanging over crawford than burns. just cos the yanks say he gonna be great , it doesnt mean he will be. we were told that broner was the future, super talented ,etc ...but it turns out that a crude slugger with a lot of heart was enough to expose that one.

Great post.

I have a feeling Ricky will do what Froch did to Bute. Pretty much the majority of the interent boxing writers etc said Bute was going to come over and whoop Carl. even though Carl had fought and beaten much better opponents than on Butes record.

Not seen Crawford fight before as nothing on his record makes me take notice will have opinions on him after Saturday thats for sure.

Initially I had Crawford down to win this but I've changed my mind. The guy arrived in the UK later than expected and he's been moaning about not liking the weather etc, I'm not sure he's totally confident himself.

I can see Burns dragging Crawford out of his comfort zone and winning by stoppage.

Yeah, Its Crawford's biggest fight he has bowled over tomato cans up until now.

Hopefully Ricky does the business.

I can see Ricky putting one of his best performances on, Crawford will give him problems early on, for Ricky Burns to talk over and break his heart, stopping him late on.

Weigh-in. Check out Alex Morrison getting his hands on Crawford's trainer at the end.

Billy giving it the cutthroat at the weigh in today after Ricky and Crawford and his trainer exchanged words

As for the weigh in itself, Ricky looked taller than Crawford, until Crawford seemed to suddenly grow, couldn't see his feet but the way he moved upwards made it look like he was standing on his toes, so maybe Ricky does have a height advantage, but even if he doesn't, he looked huge at the weigh in, much, much bigger than Crawford to me.

Yeah the whole height thing is odd! I dunno if Crawford was wearing cuban heels at the press conference yesterday or something lol

I think he's standing on his tip toes a bit, the way he rose in height, then rose again to match Burns today seemed unusual, almost as if he was trying to prove something pyschologically, whether to himself or Burns I don't know.

He didn't look close to being 'much, much bigger' in my opinion, and he's fought much of his career above lightweight.

You're really pulling for Burns, aren't you?

Not in height, but just pure size, especially in the body, Burns was definitely bigger than Crawford.

Maybe bigger, but it didn't look like too much of a difference to me. Are you a psychologist by any chance? You seem to be reading heavily into Crawford's mannerisms, but I don't see why they're that significant. Could you answer my question above about how Crawford usually carries himself outside the ring?
