Very true - odds look stacked against him but he's pulled off some unlikely wins before, which makes it a terrific fight to look forward toKilburn wrote:Ditto MW. I'm not going to bet though, as I want Ricky to win this, but he is likely going to have to fight out of his skin.
Big night tomorrow.

You're probably right Riddick, you're on a role with some bang on predictions....but you're due a spectacular miss fire soon !Riddick Blowe wrote:Fast, smooth, great skills, very tidy defence. Very good footwork, and overall ring generalship, good pop. Good chin (He took a couple of big ones from Prescott and didn't even flinch). Nice combinations. He's the real deal, the full package. The price is shortening. 4/9 is great value in my opinion. When you see the fight unfold you'll wonder why Crawford isn't a 1/4 favourite.

Hopefully this is one of them. How much have you lumped on Crawford? I'm tempted to stick a few quid on Burns, but I don't use online betting and I can't be arsed walking to the bookies tomorrow, so I might give it a miss.Riddick Blowe wrote:I've had my fair share of misfires mate... :(MightyWarrior wrote:You're probably right Riddick, you're on a role with some bang on predictions....but you're due a spectacular miss fire soon !Riddick Blowe wrote:Fast, smooth, great skills, very tidy defence. Most shoes give an inch of height or so and plenty of fighters wear that type of footwear so they can slip it off easily. Some people are really grasping at the oddest straws here.....
Re: Burns Vs Crawford
Burns has been on borrowed time for a while. This is what happens when he faces his 1st legitimate world class challenger, the only reason this is happening is because its a mandatory. Hes a paper champion, his team dodged the best and he clearly lost his last fight. Crawford by wide ud.

Burns and Crawford expected in the ring tonight at 10pm
Re: Burns Vs Crawford
since when was prescot a monster? the only thing he ever done in his boxing career was knocking out amir khan.....theres plenty of half decent punchers out there who would have done the same . like i said before , kev mitchell gave prescott a boxing lesson and he's about half the size.MightyWarrior wrote:From what I've seen of this guy against Prescott he looks the real deal. looking good against mediocre opposition is hardly proof of greatness. going into a hostile atmosphere in a different time zone with no time to acclimatize is hard enough without having to face someone with burns conditioning and will. the championship rounds are another hurdle that he has no experience of. there are still a lot of unanswered questions associated with crawfords greatness. I'll go with the qualities we know burns posesses....fitness,determination,and discipline and experience

It was a step up against a tough guy and Crawford embarrassed him. Sometimes you just have to recognise talent in the ring before the results are there to back it up.
Look at Lomachenko tonight for instance. 1/7 favourite against Salido...after one pro fight.

It's a difficult fight to judge, Is Crawford here for the payday? Are Top Rank sending him on a kamikaze mission because he can't sell tickets at home? Will the Glasgae Mafioso make sure their guy gets home cooking?
So many questions, hard fight to call, maybe best to avoid the betting on this.
Anyways Mon the Crawford!!

I think those odds are pretty crazy though for Lomachenko. Obviously he's very talented but he's never gone 8 let alone 12 rounds.Riddick Blowe wrote:It was a step up against a tough guy and Crawford embarrassed him. To answer the questions, im pretty sure Crawford isnt here for the payday and I also dont think top rank are sending him here on a kamikaze mission as he's one of top ranks prized prospects. Also a lot of american fighters arent big ticket sellers. Most of the money is made from HBO and showtime deals. Regarding the fight itself though, I think it will be closer than people think anyway. Crawford has a strong chance but I dont see him completely dominating burns even if he does win.ThereByTheGrace wrote:It's a difficult fight to judge, Is Crawford here for the payday? Lomachenko had 397 amateur bouts and Salido has lost 12 times as a pro; though I get what you're driving at Crawford isn't Lomachenko and Burns does not roll over and give in - Crawford is slick and well schooled but he's in for a tough night.Riddick Blowe wrote:It was a step up against a tough guy and Crawford embarrassed him. Re: Burns Vs Crawford
I do find it strange that Top Rank agreed to let Eddie have the fight here, if he was a prized prospect then I would think it would make sense to make sure the fight was in their own country. Ie lose money holding the title fight in the US and make it back after a few defences against no-names.columbo wrote:To answer the questions, im pretty sure Crawford isnt here for the payday and I also dont think top rank are sending him here on a kamikaze mission as he's one of top ranks prized prospects. I'm never convinced when a foreign fighter comes over here and I'm thinking it is for the money. The Americans usually are never the same one way or another after fighting here.
The situation doesn't add up to me. It's boxing politics, I don't see why Top Rank couldn't have told Eddie to eff off and made the fight happen on the Chavez undercard for example.

Maybe they're that confident of Crawford beating Burns though? Maybe it's naivety on their part!ThereByTheGrace wrote:I do find it strange that Top Rank agreed to let Eddie have the fight here, if he was a prized prospect then I would think it would make sense to make sure the fight was in their own country. I agree the odds are crazy...it's just an example of how talent can trump proven pro record. (NB, Crawford's amateur record is pretty good too and Burns is going to be easier for Crawford than Salido is for Loma in my opinion...)columbo wrote:I think those odds are pretty crazy though for Lomachenko. I'll never bet against Burns, tried it a few times and he put me out of pocket.
Crawford is however, very good. I've predicted a late stoppage win for the American, but not confidently enough to put any money on it.

Yeah Burns is the type of fighter who seems to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat.Lenny Cravats wrote:I'll never bet against Burns, tried it a few times and he put me out of pocket.

Re: Burns Vs Crawford
can anyone shed any light on the fact that crawford and broner have never been mooted as possible opponents? or did i miss something? they were both at the same weight, and broner is in fact a couple of years younger. would have been an interesting matchup

Re: Burns Vs Crawford
Bravest of the brave Ricky Burns exposes his jaw when he defends his WBO lightweight title tonight in Glasgow against unbeaten American Terence Crawford.
Eddie Hearn promotes.
Burns was held to a draw by surprisingly useful Mexican Raymundo Beltran on a contentious autumn night last year. Frankly, he looked lucky to hang on to his belt in his native Scotland but then it was revealed that his jaw 'went' in the second round (shades of Ali-Norton) so the remainder of the 12-rounder must have been an exercise in torture, particularly when he was dropped in the eighth round. The break subsequently required an operation. Photos of Ricky in a hospital bed are not pretty.
Nevertheless, Burns is back and favoured to beat the little-known Crawford, 22-0 (16), who holds one or two wins over seriously 'fringe' contenders and took a decision over Colombia's overrated Breidis Prescott last year in his first 10-rounder. We all know Prescott once smashed Amir Khan inside a minute but Prescott also dropped a lopsided 12-round decision to our own Kevin Mitchell, a man Burns smashed in just four rounds in 2012.
Yes, styles make fights, and unbeaten fighters are hard to assess, but there is an inexperienced feel about the visitor who hails from Nebraska and has never boxed outside the States before. Clearly, Crawford will not relish the attention he receives from a packed crowd in the Scottish Exhibition Centre nor from the vastly improved Burns, who will feel he has a real point to prove after Beltran and will want to test that jaw in some meaty exchanges.
Unless Burns does a Kevin Finnegan, who suffered a disastrous drop in from after breaking his jaw in a winning 10-rounder in the 1970s, you have to feel that the champion is good enough to punch out a late stoppage or a clear decision.

Nebraska is not a boxing hotbed amateur or pro is it?
Re: Burns Vs Crawford
For me, there's a few too many unknown factors to make a confident prediction.
How good will Crawford look against a genuine top-10 fighter? Will he travel well? Why have Top Rank let him travel (and risk a shafting on the cards) if they believe he will be a future star? How will Burn's jaw (and confidence) hold up? Is Ricky on the slide - he's by no means old but he's a had a few hard fights in his career now (Arthur, Johanneson, Martinez, Gonzalez, Beltran)?
For me, all I can base my prediction on is who do I think wins out of a champion, boing at home, who has beaten the likes of Martinez, Mitchell, Moses and Katsidis, against a prospect who has to this point only beaten Prescott and Klimov?
So, with no degree of real confidence, I'm going for Burns.
Regardless, really looking forward to this one!
