Will Tommy Coyle draw Curtis Woodhouse out of retirement

Post by Anzi »

There has been a lot of history between these two in the past, insults flying back and forth, they have called each other out in the past, well, Tommy Coyle did it again after their bouts on saturday, strangely Curtis Woodhouse bit back and said that if he had landed the shots that Coyle's opponent landed, Coyle would out for the count, it would not supprise me if the winners of the two barnstorming fights of the weekend, where to meet, add to it the bad blood over a number of years between the two, another fight of the year candidate, I bet Eddie can see this.

They should make the fight and then Mitchell vs Crolla. I think the latter is a better fight than Mitchell vs Coyle.

Yes, Mitchell v Crolla will be a better fight, I think Mitchell would ko Tommy Coyle in a one sided fight, too aggressive and powerful and he can box too.

good thread this, and surprising that nobody else put these 2 together. each man's fight was a worthy main event and you have to wonder whether coyle's 7 or 8 knockdown war with brizuela took attention away from woodhouse's win over hamilton, or if woodhouse's great story and great fight deflected attention away from coyle's unbelievable fight.

both men within a few pounds of each other, apparently not liking each other - fuel for a grudge match - and the fact that both are known for having eventful, dramatic fights and you have the ingredients for a great fight.

would coyle go up to light welterweight? doesn't coyle need woodhouse much more than woodhouse, satisfied with his achievements, needs coyle?

Coyle definitely needs Curtis more, it would be a big money fight in Hull, possibly outdoors in the summer, but Curtis has money from football and gambling and he's achieved everything he set out to achieve.

Woodhouse doesn't "need" anyone I would imagine, financially I am sure he is secure (which makes his achievements all the more remarkable).

Would be a good fight, tough one to call... if Coyle's apparently world ranking can be transferred to 140 - then that might appeal to Curtis.

absolutely, but with the weight in curtis' favour, coyle moving up for instance, coyle being down 5 times in his 2 biggest fights, there being some apparent needle between the two...what happens when a promoter makes an offer putting two of the most compelling british fighters together?

could enough interest and money be drummed up, to make it worth it enough for Curtis?

I, like everyone else, am chuffed he fulfilled his dream and can leave on his own terms. but if he was to fight coyle in Yorkshire, there's no way I wouldn't go to see it!

Completely agree, and I don't think the money and interest is an issue for Curtis (a bonus I am sure). Curtis never needed to fight for those reasons, so why need them now.

I personally hope if there is an itch with Curtis then I hope that Eddie/Dave might consider Allakhverdiev or Perez for a version of the WBA title. Now Curtis has the British title, I've seen worst people get world title shots (dare I say Mr Purdy).... and you know something the bits I've seen of these two I don't think it would be a Walker vs Karmazin style mis match. Yes, Curtis would be a heavy underdog - but Mbaye ran Allakhverdiev close and he is ancient and very beatable.

If the winner of Coyle vs Woodhouse gets a shot at one of those boys (who I think would be prepared to travel if the money is fine) then it would be a nice incentive. Imagine Woodhouse vs Allakhverdiev on the undercard of Groves vs Froch 3 (okay, maybe thinking well ahead there) - I would certainly make comparisons with Bingham vs Wright on the undercard of Collins vs Benn 2.

Not read all of the replies, but if Curtis has set out a target for himself and achieved that target why does he need to risk his health to prove more? What more can he prove for himself if he has set himself a target that he's reached. If he carries on why make targets in the first place?

If he gets beat in his first defence that bubble has burst and his target is no longer 'big' as it was before. In my opinion, yes it would be great to defend the belt 3 times and get it for keeps, however there is always a risk in life. He could get knocked out in one round and it makes his win look chit.

If I could tell Curtis one thing it would be get the hell out of there now, you have achieved your objective so live off that achievement. Not many people can say they have won a belt, so why go down the road of proving nothing more?

Get the hell out, im sure you have an agent, get on those reality shows now to make some easy money, get in celebirty BB or Dancing on Ice, or there will be other reality shows on minor channels on Sky, Come Dine with me or Celebrity Road trip, make it easy and keep reliving the dream that you set out for.

Retire, nothing to prove!

If Lee Purdy and Martin Ward can fight for world titles, so can Curtis Woodhouse and what an incredible story it would be if he won.

I like to see him box as he's a good style to watch; the gulf between British and World level is just plain crazy and lets not forget that people don't just get embarrassed when they step out of their league; they can get hurt bad.

He seems a man who knows his own mind and he has nothing to prove and doesn't need the money - I can't imagine a reason to carry on boxing pro.

Haha I've only been retires 6 days and boom boom is wanting me to come back! It's not a financial thing, I fought for glory and to become British champion, I achieved both, I've spoke to Dave Ryan and Adam and they all want me to do the same thing, retire with my health and achievement intact, I still want to fight because that's what I do but I also realise it may be time to go, giving myself a couple of weeks to think it over, me against tommy is a huge fight in hull that would do big numbers but sometimes in boxing fights slip away due to timing and this looks like it will be one of them, I've spoke to a few people who have big plans for me outside of boxing so if I can earn a good living dining out on being footballer/boxer then it might be a bit easier than slipping jabs and hooks but deep down in my blood I'm a fighter

I would be rooting for curtis. Curtis body punching can do coyle but coyles straight right could do curtis. Curtis would never drop below 140 again, just too vulnerable.

No way will I go to 9st9lbs I think tommy should stay at lightweight, all he has at 10st is me and I'm not sure what I'm doing next, he should stay at lightweight and maybe look to fight Campbell in hull, I won't be used by anybody, if Eddie wants me to fight one of his fighters in there home city in a fight that will sell thousands he better have deep pockets, otherwise if I do fight again I have lots of options and that's a good thing, in the ring or not I've got lots of options and that's a good thing, just give me a couple of weeks till I come down, then I can make a balanced decision

we definitely understand, Curtis. after dragging that extra mile out of your body, we haven't a clue how you feel physically, after that. when you go past the limit, then it's probably time to get out, on your own terms which few ppl do.

and if coyle gets beaten in his next fight, then this kind of talk will stop right away.

however, the sport being a business, I'm sure a lot of us think some promoter or other will try to capitalise on your story, by reaching into his deep pockets - which obviously changes everything - while you are champion.

Well said mate, be in control of your own career, you sure your bet was not win the British title and the retire ? The bookies always get there money back in the end, they will want you to carry on and bet the £250,000 on a world title at 100-1 lol.
