Why would he fight Junior Witter again? He beat him comfortably last time round, Witter's never been in a good fight and the first was a bit of a stinker. No reason to go over old ground against a 40 year old who's lost his only fight since. If you look down the list of fighters available, Frankie's already beaten Witter, Vassell and Barnes, Foot's injured, Watson hasn't fought for a year, Purdy's in Prizefighter, Theophane's fighting in the US now, O'Donnell has fought 4 times in the 3 years since he lost to Watson, the last of those a 4 rounder in July, Skeete doesn't want it, Lynes was beaten by Skeete and Witter, Gaynor turned it down, Patterson's fighting against a lad who's had 4 fights for a masters strap tomorrow, Singleton's heading down the international route it seems, must be desperate to protect that 0, especially after Curtis should have taken it and Miles is a waste of time, that doesn't really leave many options.
How much do you think that Khan and Brook were offered for the slot on the Newcastle undercard?
Nowhere near as much as they would make by fighting each other.

To say that Witter has never been in a good fight is untrue.
Witter fought poorly against Gavin but would jump at the chance of another title shot. To suggest that no British fighter would accept the fight is simply untrue. Witter is ranked 78 places above Shikukutu on boxrec.
What fight of his has actually been decent to watch? I'm sure Junior would love a title shot, but he has no world ranking and Frankie beat him 16 months ago, no need to go over old ground. No British fighter that Frankie hasn't beaten or the board would approve to fight for the British title has accepted the fight, can you name anyone I missed out above that would take the fight and the board would sanction to fight for the British title.

If there's nobody decent available to challenge for the titles Frankie holds, then there shouldn't be a title defence. They should stop fxxking around and invest in a name opponent like Zab Judah or the European champ Bundu.

I'm one of Frankie's biggest fans on here and have travelled to see him a few times. Mullenman hasn't got a clue about boxing if he thinks personally selling those numbers is bad. And I do mean clueless... I agree it's not a great fight, but marks time with the added bonus of him having a high world ranking. If the big fight doesn't happen in the summer, I would be looking at other options if I was him.

He just re-signed with his promoter so I don't think jumping ship will be on the cards.

Its frustrating to see a British fighter with so much potential going to waste, and not being developed properly. He's always on somebody else's undercard up and down the country, fighting late change opponents who drag Frankie down to their level. This is indeed a marking time fight, I think the time for marking time is when you're ready to fight for the big titles but the opportunity isn't right there, at this point in his career Frankie should be being tested and being challenged in the ring to bring on his development and experience.

Frank messed about a bit himself a couple of years ago so has had to win back the trust of his promoter.

I do understand that, but while folk are letting themselves down, redeeming themselves, and all that, the top welters have been earning literally millions at the top level and it would be great to see Frankie up there before he's past it. According to the boxrec record, Shikukutu's last fight was against a debutant, and it went the distance. The record there may be incomplete but I don't think we'll be seeing the next Azumah Nelson face Frankie.

I'm even boring myself going on about it, it would just be good to see Frankie in with somebody "proper" after 5 years as a pro.

It's a 2 fight deal I think, so it may have to be the big fight next, otherwise he could be off because Eddie seems interested in putting shows on in Birmingham, although Fwank did stand by Frankie after he messed him about and Frankie does seem a loyal sort of person.

All I know is that if this opponent turns out as poor as some are predicting the internet/forums are going to have a field day making plays on his name.

Could have as many as Audrey/Ordinary/A Farce etc

You can't admit it is nonsense that Khan and Brook were offered the fight. How much do you think they were offered? £10k?

Maybe if Kell had stayed amateur, took thousands of pounds of lottery money and then not gone to the Olympics, he'd get less stick on here.

Probably. If he'd have won our first amateur world title he'd have been cut more slack, too.

the big fights have not happened and are not going to if a boxer does not sell tickets
Kell and Amir are massive names and where are they going to get the money to bring over somebody like Jab.

Frankie should be a big name with his talent and is an undercard fighter

Dont really get the "Gavin has been mismanaged" line. He's only has himself to blame in many respects. Slow start to his pro career due to lack of dedication, and some inconsistent performances thereafter (Barnes, Woodhouse, Mutley). Lovely boxer to watch when in full flow but he's never really built up the sort of momentum that gets you a steadily increased following. Perhaps they'll have to take a gamble and go overseas for peanuts to get to the next level as I dont see how bringing a 'name' over here is going to be financially viable. The Queensbury business model is all about clusters of ticket-sellers fighting in their home patch and doing their tickets. They're struggling to raise the profile of non-ticket sellers without Sky exposure and the relative decline of the printed press.

Kell, at this stage of his career, had sold nothing like the tickets Gavin has. Amir has never sold a ticket in his life...

I agree, you are right mullenman, Mickey, who is supposed to fund this so called big fight ? If it is true that Gavin has a 2 fight deal with Warren, which I doubt, Why would Warren fund this so called big fight ? There seems to be a real lack of understanding of the industry here, the days, when a manager/promoter would take a fighter off the street and fund him out of their own savings, in order to make money when the fighter has made it, are long gone, because contracts can be broken, trust, lost, friendship's ended, loyalty, gone, did you know that in America if a manager or promoter want's an attached fighter, the fighter just's has to go bankrupt and move on, how long before that happens here ? The Board seem powerless to stop it.

Who funds all the fights, Saf? The promoters... Frankie will sell for a big fight with a decent undercard. Birmingham is a big place, as you know.
