Sorry but Ricky was a world class SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT but isn't and never has been world class LIGHTWEIGHT.
He was a world class lightweight, beating Katsidis, Moses, Mitchell and Gonzalez proved that.

That's what I mean though, he looked a somewhat shot fighter.
Crawford was always going to be difficult for him stylistically and was far from the ideal fight coming off a broken jaw, it wasn't so much Ricky looking shot, it seemed to be more of a mental thing, he didn't look confident in there.
He seemed to be grabbing in every exchange which I guess could of been a psychological thing in relation to his jaw.

That was a bit bizarre, it was almost like the post-fight interviews were taken from a different fight. Everyone was happy, positive and looking forward to a blossoming future. Not saying they should be crying but I would have thought it's close to the end of the road?

Burns should call it a day, excellent career when you think back to Johanneson fight and nothing left to prove. Walk away sir and enjoy family life in good health.
yeah he has Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell all good wins though.

"Not quite the Ricky we know?" WTF. The only reason for it is Crawford. Respect to Burns, but this was not really competitive.

Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. Maybe not getting his shots off as much was down to Crawford, but on the rare occasion he put a proper combination together, it worked, he needed to throw 3 or 4 punches, then throw another 3 or 4 so Crawford couldn't come back at him.

Have you seen Ricky fight before? He doesn't hold as much as he did tonight, doesn't back off after one clean shot and is prepared to put his punches together, he's done that against stronger men than Crawford and bigger punchers and against slicker boxers, tonight he never really did any of that.

He was a world class lightweight, beating Katsidis, Moses, Mitchell and Gonzalez proved that.
A shot Katsidis (lost 2 of his previous 3 and then his subsequent bout)
Moses, who's best win was over Yusuke Kobori (who was a paper world champion after being a Japanese SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT champion)
Fringe European Mitchell (who did what at world level? Who did what at Lightweight?
And the "Who is he?" Gonzalez (who was beating Burns until he broke his hand)

Defending a world title doesn't make you world class, defending a world title against world class opponents does. Ricky never did that.

Gonzalez looked much more talented than Crawford (except for stamina and heart) based on their fights against Burns.

Gonzalez would be in front then fall apart late on if Crawford puts it on him, chin isn't a problem, just heart, fitness and desire for Gonzalez.

Gonzalez had no tank and fell apart after just a bit of pressure from Burns. Crawford was like Gonzalez except he was able to maintain what he was doing without falling apart. The other fighters you mention, especially Martinez and past-prime Katsidis, are significantly less skilled, fluid, and defensively adroit than Crawford, so I can see why Ricky would look better and thus more confident against them. Try giving Crawford some credit for clearly winning. He also didn't look a bit bothered by the atmosphere or magnitude of the fight like you continually suggested.

Big crowd=big fights. They're looking at the fcking gate receipts & the happy fact Ricky finished on his feet.

The current economic/marketing model of boxing means the fights that get the most exposure & therefore pay the best are those conducted after the fighter has long passed his physical prime. If Pacquiao gets past Bradley expect him to flight Pretty Boy for all the money in the world; is Pac really more of a threat today than four/five years ago? No, obviously not. But look at JML vs Gamboa, that great Latin superfight they kept on the boil, & on the boil, & oh fvck now Lopez is rematching a guy he KO'd in a round & might get done by him. & Gamboa's disappeared in a haze of Miami street-food & (allegedly) performance-enhancing drugs.

Burns'll probably make a shedload if he can keep filling arenas like that: makes for good TV, who throw the money at stuff.

Sorry, don't mean to come across as talking down or nuffink, just venting my black boiling cynicism into the void, like.

Little tip - if you read a thread titled Burns vs Crawford RBR you don't reasonably expect to be told the result of a fight on another card in another country !

This is the Burns vs Crawford RBR, not the Stieglitz vs Abraham RBR.

Do not post spoilers!

Tell you what; I'd back lots of fighters to be ahead after six versus Crawford. I wouldn't take nearly as many to actually beat him, however.

& I can't think of anyone around the weight (9-10 stone) who I'd be confident would have fun with his company for an evening.

I think Gonzalez, Vasquez and Abril would fancy their chances. Tough fights either way IMO
