This fight turned out exactly how i thought, except Ricky wasnt forced into losing rounds,he gave most of them away without a fight

I dont mean to be too critical of Burns as he was a great champ and as tough as they come but he looked and has looked recently totally devoid of any ideas or a plan B,apart from the jab which i actually thought worked well and he should have threw more ofter, the only combination he threw was the 1/2 left jab/.straight right which fell short everytime, lack of imagination from Ricky and im his biggest fan and wish him nothing but the best for him but his days as a world force may be finished im afraid his luck just ran out

119-110 Crawford was my score and although i was impressed with his speed and slickness,i cant help feeling the Ricky Burns of the last few years would have forced the issue more

Ricky your a credit to the sport and i hope to see back on the world stage :salut:

Sorry but Ricky was a world class SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT but isn't and never has been world class LIGHTWEIGHT.
He was a world class lightweight, beating Katsidis, Moses, Mitchell and Gonzalez proved that.
A shot Katsidis (lost 2 of his previous 3 and then his subsequent bout)
Moses, who's best win was over Yusuke Kobori (who was a paper world champion after being a Japanese SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT champion)
Fringe European Mitchell (who did what at world level? Who did what at Lightweight?
And the "Who is he?" Gonzalez (who was beating Burns until he broke his hand)

Defending a world title doesn't make you world class, defending a world title against world class opponents does. Ricky never did that.
Because he defended against world class opponents at Super Featherweight. Kobori beat a reigning world champion and Ricky himself was only Commonwealth champion before the Martinez fight. Mitchell stopped John Murray, who was 31 fights unbeaten European champion, I'd say that puts him at least at European level, all the best work of his career came at lightweight. Gonzalez was clearly world class, you only had to watch the fight to see that and there was nothing wrong with his hand, he didn't go to hospital, wasn't checked over by a doctor and there was no swelling an hour afterwards, his heart was broken, not his hand. Katsidis had lost twice in world title fights, one of those against Marquez, he dropped him and gave him all kinds of trouble until he was stopped. You're being very harsh claiming Ricky wasn't and isn't a world class lightweight.

Little tip stay out of RBR threads if you are looking to avoid spoilers
Little tip - if you read a thread titled Burns vs Crawford RBR you don't reasonably expect to be told the result of a fight on another card in another country !
RBRs by their nature relate to boxing in a live context. Someone asked for the result, I gave it to them.

Too many people get sand in their vaginas over this sort of thing - my approach has always been to get off the net if I am trying to avoid results from boxing contests - especially boxing round by round threads on boxing forums...

Gonzalez would be in front then fall apart late on if Crawford puts it on him, chin isn't a problem, just heart, fitness and desire for Gonzalez.
Gonzalez looked several levels above burns until he suddenly gave up in no small part due to burns' heart and grit. Crawford looked a clear level above Burns but i dont think he's anything that amazing. Burns was poor tonight maybe crawford had more power than it appeared but burns needed to sit and trade with the guy to win like he did against Gonzalez instead he was in his shell getting picked off all night.

Katsidis LOST after going to war against Marquez and downed him before getting stopped in a great fight, fair play he got completely outboxed by Guerroro who looked awesome and I've not seen him like that since. Lots of people picked Katsidis against Ricky and Martinez was a very good scalp. Ricky blitzed Mitchell a quality domestic win.

Gonzalez did the same thing, but better and Ricky came through in the end, every time he was hit clean he backed off onto the ropes, he stood with Martinez, Katsidis, Mitchell and Gonzalez and all of them hit at least as hard, if not harder than Crawford. Maybe not getting his shots off as much was down to Crawford, but on the rare occasion he put a proper combination together, it worked, he needed to throw 3 or 4 punches, then throw another 3 or 4 so Crawford couldn't come back at him.
Gonzalez had no tank and fell apart after just a bit of pressure from Burns. Crawford was like Gonzalez except he was able to maintain what he was doing without falling apart. The other fighters you mention, especially Martinez and past-prime Katsidis, are significantly less skilled, fluid, and defensively adroit than Crawford, so I can see why Ricky would look better and thus more confident against them. Try giving Crawford some credit for clearly winning. He also didn't look a bit bothered by the atmosphere or magnitude of the fight like you continually suggested.
Gonzalez was far better than Crawford was at any point tonight for the first 7 rounds and Martinez and Katsidis both hit just as hard, if not harder than Crawford, but when they hit him he didn't back off, I can understand Ricky being a bit cautious with his punches because Crawford was very slick, but continually backing off onto the ropes had little to do with Crawford.

Have you seen Ricky fight before? He doesn't hold as much as he did tonight, doesn't back off after one clean shot and is prepared to put his punches together, he's done that against stronger men than Crawford and bigger punchers and against slicker boxers, tonight he never really did any of that.
Yes, and he has NEVER fought anyone on Crawford's level. You are so blinded by your prejudice that you can't see yourself in the mirror. Katsidis? Mitchell? Martinez? Gonzalez? You do Burns no service demeaning Crawford. Crawford is two full levels above any of those fighters, and he showed it tonight.

Burns did not look like himself because Crawford made an overachiever look like who he is. Crawford will KTFO Gonzalez if they fight. He would skunk Katsidis. He would humble Mitchell and Martinez.

The only lightweights that might give him trouble are Vazquez (because of his style), Gamboa (because of his speed), and Garcia (because of his skills). That is it at this moment.

Give Burns credit, he got it to the cards.

I want to discuss the boxing while I watch it.

Show respect to the other members of the forum by not giving away the results from other shows in the future.

I agree with your point about just staying off the net in general, but if you notice most people were courteous enough not to post the degale fight on this thread because there were 3 live events on 3 different channels at the same time and some people were discussing the sky bill while recording the other channels.

You could have just used your brain a bit and thought some people might be about to go and watch the AA v Stieglitz fight now the burns one had finished.

Good shout actually. Linares is er, somewhat vulnerable to a heavy shot, but I don't think Crawford's got the one-punch power to do it.

I didn't mean to suggest Crawford is going to finish his career unbeaten; far from it. I just like the look of the lad, & feel he'd be a handful for anyone.

I would like to see him defend the title a couple times, maybe in Omaha. Maybe Conor Oberst could play him in to the ring like the Scorpions do for dodgy Germans.

Then go for unifications or summink. Like the look of the lad. He'd beat Miguel Angel Garcia, imo. Vazquez'd be tougher & would make it uuuuugly. Wouldn't wanna bet on that one.

Your right, it was AFTER the Marquez fight and a year removed from Katsidis last win of note (which came against Mitchell). When did Katsidis beat a "world class" Lightweight? A shot Chavez in 2009? I loved watching Katsidis but he wasn't genuine world class just an exciting fighter who kept winning "interim" world titles then failing when he stepped up. As shown against Casamayor, Diaz, Marquez and Guerrero.

Mitchell, like you said, was a DOMESTIC win. Not a world class one.

Martinez was at Super Featherweight, where I will suggest Ricky was world class.

Ricky backed off many times against Katsidis and Martinez. I think he had a much easier time blocking their punches, which may explain why he backed up whenever Crawford attacked. Both of them were fairly crude in their attacks and walked straight to Ricky, not offering anywhere close to the same skill and accuracy that Crawford showed.

I'm not really sure why you mention Gonzalez, because Ricky didn't look confident at all for most of that fight. He was getting beat handily over the first several rounds and he looked the part, just as he was tonight over a longer duration.

But hey, Crawford won easily so there must be something wrong with Ricky; it's not like he could simply be better than Ricky is and was

Acting like this when there are two alternatives (you are simply massively fvcking wrong or the one beacon of truth in a dark benighted world & are therefore massively unpopular) will make nice girls hate you, you know.

Gents, we may know the result of the Stieglitz-Abraham fight but we still havent seen the fight itself so it can still be enjoyed not knowing exactly how it played out.

Crawford is not better than Gonzalez, he doesn't hit as hard as Katsidis, Mitchell and Martinez, although he is certainly a better boxer and when they hit Burns, he stood there and threw back, but one clean shot from Crawford had him backing onto the ropes, nothing to do with Crawford being any kind of big banger, Ricky just didn't seem confident in his own ability to take punches, when in the past he's been prepared to walk through bigger shots to land his own, at no point tonight did he look willing to even attempt that, that isn't normal for him, even when being made to miss like he did, he landed more on Crawford than he did on Gonzalez, but when Gonzalez made him miss, he kept coming forward and eventually ground him down, I don't think he would have done that to Crawford because at no stage did he look like falling apart, but the Ricky Burns in the ring tonight was not the same man that we've seen in the past, no matter how good Crawford is and he isn't as good as you seem to think he is.

I'll say it as I see it, I don't care whether anyone else sees it the same, I'm not just going to play follow the leader and I don't really care if anyone tries to punch me, I'll happily throw a few back if I need to, even if it means I end up on the floor.

He TOOK  the babybull to a split and if I remember the Casamayor fight was close up to the kayo, Katsidis was certainly on the fringes of WC but as an entrant to LW it was a good win. Martinez was Burns's finest hour.
