Ricky wasn't at his best but when he tried to box the way he normally does it looked like he would get stopped.. Burns doesn't have the power to hurt Crawford if he was more open he would get stopped!! For Ricky to beat any of the current lightweight World Champions he would need to change his style in my opinion.. He didn't seem to listen to any of Billy's advice and I'm guessing that wasn't the game plan.. He either needs to leave Billy or they need to bring in fresh eyesHorse wrote:Burns wasn't at his best.Boxing Prospect wrote:YUP!daviddee wrote:That was the first genuine World Class opponent that Ricky has faced and he was just too good for him.
Ricky Burns at 100% can beat Terence Crawford.

If we accept "Ricky wasn't his best" is it not also worth noting that Crawford also seemed to fight WELL within himself?

WTF. The only reason for it is Crawford. Respect to Burns, but this was not really competitive.
Burns did not look like himself because Crawford made an overachiever look like who he is. Crawford will KTFO Gonzalez if they fight. He would skunk Katsidis. He would humble Mitchell and Martinez.
The only lightweights that might give him trouble are Vazquez (because of his style), Gamboa (because of his speed), and Garcia (because of his skills). That is it at this moment.
Give Burns credit, he got it to the cards.
I definitely give Burns credit for making it through the fight. Let's not kid ourselves, Burns was the best he could be tonight. I was actually a bit disappointed with Crawford, I expected him to be even more decisive than that because some rounds were close. But it's testiment to Burns' heart that he made Crawford work for his victory.

You are simply delusional in this case. Hopefully we will get to see Crawford destroy Gonzalez. Katsidis was way past it when Ricky got him, but it was a good, courageous win. Mitchell and Martinez? Your credibility takes a major hit with that sh!t.expe wrote:Crawford is not better than Gonzalez, he doesn't hit as hard as Katsidis, Mitchell and Martinez, although he is certainly a better boxer and when they hit Burns, he stood there and threw back, but one clean shot from Crawford had him backing onto the ropes, nothing to do with Crawford being any kind of big banger, Ricky just didn't seem confident in his own ability to take punches, when in the past he's been prepared to walk through bigger shots to land his own, at no point tonight did he look willing to even attempt that, that isn't normal for him, even when being made to miss like he did, he landed more on Crawford than he did on Gonzalez, but when Gonzalez made him miss, he kept coming forward and eventually ground him down, I don't think he would have done that to Crawford because at no stage did he look like falling apart, but the Ricky Burns in the ring tonight was not the same man that we've seen in the past, no matter how good Crawford is and he isn't as good as you seem to think he is.Tanzio wrote:Yes, and he has NEVER fought anyone on Crawford's level. It is not like I am unfamiliar with having an unpopular opinion. I had
Tim Ramming Speed Bradley 115-113 v Pac. I thought Lomachenko earned a draw last night. But, you are going to literally delusional measures to rationalize Ricky's demise and demean Crawford. Seriously, Crawford is far beyond journeyman and British domestic level.

Re: Burns vs Crawford RBR
Crawford's good, very slick and quick, there's no doubt about that and he would beat Gonzalez, but he wouldn't outbox him, Gonzalez has no heart or stamina, but he is a fantastic boxer, a level above Crawford in that respect, but eventually Crawford would wear him down and stop him. Neither Mitchell or Martinez are on Crawford's level, I don't deny that, but they definitely hit as hard and when Ricky fought them he was happy to take their shots and come back with his own, last night he wasn't willing to do that.Tanzio wrote:You are simply delusional in this case. It just didn't look like Burns ever got out of 2nd gear, waited for him to go through the gears like he normally would when losing and it never came, Crawford didn't look like he got out of 2nd gear either, but it was up to Ricky to force him to go through the gears, if he has them available, we didn't really find out last night, both men looked like they boxed well within themselves and Ricky looked scared of being hit at times, which isn't normal for him. At the end of the day, the better man won on the night and Crawford may well be capable of better, but that wasn't the Ricky Burns we've seen in the past, maybe it just isn't there anymore.

Re: Burns vs Crawford RBR
I have always like Burns, but in all honesty he lost easily against the first really decent fighter he has has faced.
Some of the crap he faced as champion was shocking. Crawford handled him with ease and although a skilled boxer, crawford is not exactly the second coming.
At least Burns made a bit of wedge in his career.

Re: Burns vs Crawford RBR
Burns definitely didn't look to be at his best but that may be because Crawford didnt allow him to get to his best. If Crawford showed any hint of weakness then I'm sure Ricky could have capitalised on it but it wasnt to be. Canelo didnt look at his best against mayweather because he couldnt get near him. the same for Marquez, Guerrero etc. Im not saying that Crawford is the next Mayweather, just saying that sometimes slick fighters can make opponents look off their game.
For me I would like to see Burns move his head more when he is on the ropes with his high guard, Start bobbing, weaving, slipping, turning etc instead of just covering up and relying on his guard. When he goes into that shell he is too stationary and without that movement its difficult to come back with punches. He has had the same defensive technique all along but as the fighters have improved over the years, they have been able to pick through it.
If Burns was ever to change trainers then I'd like to see him with Joe Gallagher. There is top sparring in Gallaghers gym and they are also very fit fighters which would suit burns since a lot of his success has been down to having a good engine.

Re: Burns vs Crawford RBR
Burns is simply not as good as a lot of people think he is. I will repeat, who has he actually beaten that is genuine world class?
He had a great night and fought fabulously well against Martinez, but although a good fighter Martinez is not at the very top level.
Apart from that we have a past it Katsidis, Mitchell, Gonzales, Lareya, Cook and Evensen (the norwegian dwarf who took him 12 rounds)
I will not include Beltram, as that scoring was quite simply disgusting. That is a loss in my book.
The bookies were spot on with Crawford. He was a level above.

I like Ogogo but him bragging about his stamina was priceless
spotting fighters fatigue isnt one of my best assets unless their obviously shattered but jeez i noticed Ogogo gassing badly after the third
Re: Burns vs Crawford RBR
He broke his jaw against Beltran, so that can be discounted really, impossible to fight to your full potential with a broken jaw and he looked underpar against Gonzalez, but maybe that was down to Gonzalez being so slick, rather than Burns' failings or a combination of the two, or like I said, maybe it isn't there anymore, but I would have liked to see him at least try and push Crawford by throwing in bunches and standing with him instead of backing off, but maybe he felt like Crawford was too slick and would make him fall short, but that doesn't really explain the backing off.gerryd77 wrote:Or the fight before last night and the fight before that?expe wrote:Because I think he wasn't at his best last night?Riddick Blowe wrote:I've come to the conclusion that there's no other logical explanation than expe being a relative of Burns.
Re: Burns vs Crawford RBR
Last night definitely showed his biggest weaknesses, the style match up was always likely to favour Crawford, but Ricky can be far too predictable at times, he needs a hook and an uppercut, when he has got them off they've worked, Mitchell was taken out with the left hook and the fight back against Gonzalez came from him stepping off the ropes and landing a big uppercut, too often he walks forward and throws a jab, then a right hand, he needs to feint more, double and triple the jab up and bring more variety into his work. He definitely needs to work on his defence as well, the guards pretty tight, but combinations will overwhelm it eventually, he needs to move his head more and start turning opponents to get his back off the ropes.Emmseegee wrote:Burns definitely didn't look to be at his best but that may be because Crawford didnt allow him to get to his best. Given the circumstances - i.e. you being logged on to the most well known boxing results database on the planet - the only people who'll give you an iota of sympathy for happening upon a boxing result you hoped to avoid are the type of twerps who'd be disgusted to find their foot in a sock.Horse wrote:TerribleTerry, you should apologise and stop acting like a plonker.
