Kevin Mitchell big fight on Froch undercard

Post by TopGun »

He is tweeting about having a big fight on the undercard at Wembley. Anyone know who it is against?

I would think it will be a fellow Matchroom boxer with the announcement so soon after the venue announcement.
Unlikely it will be Burns comeback for me with Burns having a good fan base & being based in Glasgow. My money is on John Murray although surely it would make sense to have him against Crolla on the Manchester bill the month before.

If Murray fights him instead of Crolla its just plain stupid.

Saw a tweet saying Murray might be signing with Queensbury so the Crolla fight may become difficult if Matchroom cannot make it in the next few days.

Could be Katsidis rematch? Or Coyle fight?

They have to have him in a decent fight on this really, as he can shift some tickets but only (in my opinion) against the right opponent - ie he didn't seem to have many there specifically to watch him at the Excel show a while back.

For a bill of this magnitude the main undercard bout has to be a good one. Maybe Kev will get to fight Vazquez or Crawford.

I know it's a reach but Crawford seemed pleased with the reception he got on his Scottish visit while Vazquez would earn his biggest purse too.

All speculation at this point though.

That would be good, Crawford.

If it's a World title fight could it be Abril? Or has he been stripped? It's coming from Mitchell so my guess is it's either a WT fight or a final eliminator against a good name. We will see in time I guess.

Why would he even deserve a world title bout? His hammering from Burns looks even worse after the weekend.

Undeserving people get World title shots sometimes.

If Darren Barker can win a world title then Kevin Mitchell can. Very similar levels albeit different weights

He's ranked No. 7, by the IBF, Mickey. And there's no-one at 1 & 2 & no. 3 is/was Dennis Shafikov.

In our alphabet world of boxing he's now considered deserving.

Add to that whichever champion fights him will probably earn more than they would in any other voluntary defence and the chance to fight in front of 80,000 people has to be appealing.

If you think this is truely going to be a genuine big fight you're mad. Eddie is too tight for that.

Why would he have options? It was a mandatory shot.

Mitchell on the undercard against a serious opponent would be good I like Kevin Mitchell and he seems to have got his sh1t together and I want him to do well.

Miguel Vázquez would be brilliant but not sure they could make it happen. I think we could also rule out Crawford.

Someone like Richar Abril who hasn't fought since Feb 2013 but currently holds the WBA strap maybe ?

Omar Figueroa for the WBC strap :TU:
