They'll be queuing up to get in this, especially if the flights are paid for.

I guess this takes both fighters out of the equation to fight Anthony Joshua anytime soon.

@Bleak....believe me, Audrey has got that flight booked and a cheesy press release ready
"Just like the mighty All Blacks, I too have a dream of excellence, courage and determination. And my dream is not over yet, I continue to strive and believe in greatness like New Zealand's mighty rugby players". Blah, blah, blah.
He'll turn-up in a pair of black trunks and probably win the bloody thing!!

Re: Rogan and Sprott sign up for HW Super 8 tourney in Auckland
I recently attended a card in Bolton (Reebok) and Blackpool (Winter Gardens). I think it was a VIP promotion setup but there was a heavyweight I noticed who fought on both cards - He was hard not to notice in all honesty. He is about 6'8 and 18 stone. It was his debut I think at Bolton and he won by KO in the first round. His name is Adam Machaj and he is a local fighter as he has been in the paper and on the radio etc. He won in blackpool within 16 seconds. And he also won again on Friday in Southport within two rounds to get to 3(3)-0. He looked a very strong heavyweight with great punching power and I noticed on boxrec he now ranks 18th in the UK. Someone like him may be better to do well in this but I agree this has Audley written all over it!!! Also Jack Massey looked very sharp too.
Heavyweight Super Eight: Who else?
So we have three confirmed:
1. Kali Meehan
2. Martin Rogan
3. Michael Sprott
What's the betting on Matt Skelton getting involved, I think that is very likely...
Danny Williams could do with another opportunity.
And how's about Tom Dallas - his career has hit a few stumbling blocks recently.
Also, I would throw young Hughie Fury in there - just because he likes to stay busy and he's game for a scrap!
And hows about Scott Belshaw, would he take it? I don't think that's too far fetched.
So my predicted other five are:
4. Matt Skelton
5. Danny Williams
6. Tom Dallas
7. Hughie Fury
8. Scott Belshaw
Though, that being said - Danny Williams might have finally run out of gas and I think you would be looking at someone like Danny Hughes to come in and give it a go - by rights, he stands to win a lot more than what he would if he lost.
Well, that's only my take on it anyway.

How can this be called the super anything?
Re: Rogan and Sprott sign up for HW Super 8 tourney in Auckland
Indeed mate. Think it's gonna be a case of "same old names, same old faces" - the appeal of some of those guys is long since tired.columbo wrote:How can this be called the super anything?

That's not to say that it's guaranteed gonna flop. We could have some close fights in there and could end up with a fairly good event.Crease wrote:Indeed mate. Think it's gonna be a case of "same old names, same old faces" - the appeal of some of those guys is long since tired.
Re: Rogan and Sprott sign up for HW Super 8 tourney in Auckland
@Crease.....as it is Down Under I'd expect a few more Kiwis and Aussies to be involved to add some local flavour/rivalry.
Shane Cameron's mobile number must be on their little list of people to call and I am guessing Tua can expect a bell. Botha likes to make a few dollars down under as well and he seems to want to fight anyone, anywhere these days; so don't be too surprised if he rocks-up for a slice of the pie.

Re: Rogan and Sprott sign up for HW Super 8 tourney in Auckland
Darnell "The Ding-a-Ling Man" Wilson is in the comments section of the article saying he wants in. They should have him in it; he's someone people have heard of (but maybe not so much in AU) and anyone who knows him knows about his power. I couldn't favor him to win the whole thing, but he'd be a wildcard with his sleep-rendering left hook.

Re: Rogan and Sprott sign up for HW Super 8 tourney in Auckland
I expect Mitch Green, Bonecrusher Smith, Smokin' Bert Cooper & Mike "The Bounty" Hunter to fill the remaining places, which will render this tournament as relevant & scintillating a night of boxing as all those other heavyweight tournaments which have inscribed their names amongst the annals of the sport.

Also, does "Super 8" mean it'll be filmed from ringside using a 1970s cine camera...?
