How much money will Froch & Groves earn from their rematch?
How much money will Froch & Groves earn from their rematch?
Obviously the sporting spectacle is far more interesting than the the money the fighters earn ...
BUT in an age where everyone is aware Wayne Rooney earns £300,000 a week and Floyd Mayweather earns $42,000,000 a fight ... it is interesting to know what our only World Champion boxer will earn for the biggest UK fight in any of our lifetimes?
I am guessing £10million+ for Froch if Wembley sells out?

Plus Sky will hype this to the max - around the clock as it approaches.
It will be the biggest fight in my lifetime, I think.

It obviously won't get anywhere near the figures that terrestrial tv got, but how many of those watched it just because it was on? In the days of four channels, I watched all the snooker, darts, athletics, rugby union, football, kabadi, American football... Etc, I could even have a chat about most of these sports. The Eubank-Benn equivalents(Bristow-Lowe, Davis-White, Coe-Ovett) were great moments BUT I wouldn't have bought a ticket to see any of them, or a magazine.

My guess is five million quid to Froch and one to Groves.
Re: How much money will Froch & Groves earn from their rematch?
I would think that Eddie Hearn takes himself whatever Groves gets more or less but I think your guess is a reasonable one, maybe 4.5 to 1.5 better?JimJim2009 wrote:My guess is five million quid to Froch and one to Groves.

There is a lot of cash in this fight. The live gate, PPV, HBO, over 100 countries showing it, sponsorship.

I think the most money goes to Froch, the second best earner is Eddie, and third place goes to Groves !macaca wrote:I would think that Eddie Hearn takes himself whatever Groves gets more or less but I think your guess is a reasonable one, maybe 4.5 to 1.5 better?JimJim2009 wrote:My guess is five million quid to Froch and one to Groves.

Re: How much money will Froch & Groves earn from their rematch?
Another way of looking at it is it is probably the last 7 digit purse of Froch's career, and that for Groves, it is the start of the 7 digit purse era for him. Possibly, anyway.

Depends, a close decision for Groves sets up a big third fight.JimJim2009 wrote:Another way of looking at it is it is probably the last 7 digit purse of Froch's career, and that for Groves, it is the start of the 7 digit purse era for him. Possibly, anyway.

Good point. And it would be fascinating to see how the purse split negotiations would go. Presumably Groves would want at last 99% !SNG wrote:Depends, a close decision for Groves sets up a big third fight.JimJim2009 wrote:Another way of looking at it is it is probably the last 7 digit purse of Froch's career, and that for Groves, it is the start of the 7 digit purse era for him. I could see that myself, Groves would be very hard to get back in the ring for Froch for a third if Groves got the decision. He would have to give up so much.JimJim2009 wrote:Good point. Mickey
Sky will earn more than George.
The Tv rights stay with Sky for the overseas viewing. If this does 400k UK ppv sales that's a gross of about 6 mill.
Just a question of how that 6 mill is divvied out !

I was being conservative. I was surprised the others never mentioned Sky. I think it will do over 400,000. It's a big fight at a good time of year.Parson Cross wrote:Mickey

Re: How much money will Froch & Groves earn from their rematch?
I suppose the bigness of the fight could be measured in several ways.
To me, the truly big fights are the ones that cross over and feature on the front of the paper. I don't think this is one of those fights.
This is a fight that will appeal to boxing fans and sports fans. I don't see it reaching out to non-sports fans, in the same way as Tyson-Bruno and Benn-Eubank II did.

It we do well more than 400k this time that was nearer the first fight ppv total.mickey1975 wrote:I was being conservative. I was surprised the others never mentioned Sky. I think it will do over 400,000. It's a big fight at a good time of year.Parson Cross wrote:Mickey

Like Mickey I was being conservative pal. I've a reasonable view on how the money will get divided up and it's great news for Froch.

Great fight, but the question nobody is asking is how many of this 80,000 they're expecting will actually be paying punters? It's not uncommon for a lot of freebies to be flying around when a promoter is chasing a big attendance.

Hearn will be happy at 60k mate and to be fair I think it will do it.
