He had a Japanese parent, I'm unsure which, and he went over there to study.

As far as I'm aware he was forced in to retirement from illness but it seems VERY difficult to find too much information on him other than that.

Strangely just a few years later a Kenyan called Modest Napunyi Oduori tied his record for fewest fights to a Japanese title.

One of my favourite books is The Road To Sata by Alan Booth in which he walks the length of Japan. Always been a country that interests me.

I (now) remember Callaghan at the time, a dashing, heavy handed fellow who looked destined for big things; Eric Armit plugged him a few times in BN; he caused quite a stir in Japan where their best fighters are small. I also remember Modest Napunyi, who featured in one of the most memorable finishes ever seen in British rings when he stopped Manchester's Michael Armstrong in Stoke in 1990. After the stoppage, Armstrong was so 'gone' that he began punching referee Billy Rafferty as if the fight was still on. It was Vince Pettaway-Simon Brown on a lesser scale.

He had an amazing fade.

I saw him lose to Irwin live and recall him being absolutely blasted by Floyd Havard. Seem to remember it was a one punch KO.

He's in prison at the mo, I think, loan sharking.

I would be willing to stake a lot of money that it was his Mum that was Japanese.

Seems a bit bizarre that he was told to pay nearly £270k or face another 3 years in prison, of which he would probably serve 18 months, so that's £180,000 a year to stay in prison, never really understood when they make demands like that, Curtis Warren was told to pay £200m or another 10 years, probably serve 5, £40,000,000 a year to stay in prison, running the place and still maintaining contact with the outside world through smuggled phones. Best thing to do would be to tell them that until they pay up, they're staying in there.
